Question about HP Pavilion a420n PC Desktop

1 Answer

No power to monitor or pc

I just tried to set up my desktop at a new desk. It has not been used in months. Nothing will power up. Everything was fine the last time that it was used. If I disconnect the power cord and plug it back into the back of the pc the green light comes on and goes right back off. I have heard before that an electronic can stop working if it is not used for a while so I was wondering if this could be the case or how long it normally takes for this to happen (if it is true). Thanks!

Re: No power to monitor or pc

Hi My suggestion would be to by a new power supply as they are quit inexpensive and this would solve any future problems that might crop up but my advices check for resources and cost also check what power supply you will need for your particular motherboard

Hello..just moved my desk top to new desk..everything is fine..but mouse won t work..while it was unplugged i cleaned keyboard..monitor with soft cloth..can u tell me why my mouse won t work

IF it's a serial mouse (meaning green round connector) it's probably not plugged in correctly. Now these are not plug and play so you need to reboot your system in order for it to work. Try that.

Colors are messed up

If You are using a CRT monitor (older Monitors similar to a TV) It may be time to replace it

Also you can try right clicking in a empty space on your desk top
go to properties>settings and check to see if your color quality is set to 32-bit

Double check you monitor connection

If all else fails your video adapter could be failing or you Monitor(VGA/DVI) cable is going bad

I have a new dell laptop. I have connected an external monitor to the laptop because the screen is bigger. The monitor has been working fine with my other computer that died. This monitor I have also used...

To activate the external VGA port on the portable Press the Fn key + the F8 key. This is a 3 setting toggle

1. LCD only
2. LCD & External
3. External only

You just press Fn+F8 again to cycle thru to the next setting

Won't power on

Have you checked if the outlet has power? If so That is not good because that means that the Power supply is shot, or some other component is shot. If it has no power reset the circuit breaker.

Does the power supply have its own power switch?

It is located next to where the power wire plugs into the back of the PC.
