Question about Canon Pixma MP500 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I found a similar thread regarding w/ my problem however it won't work out (removing the plug open it after 10 minutes). The other alternative is somewhat impossible for me (location of where I bought). Any other possible solution that you could share. Tnx!
In my case, I have that 5010 error as well and we called in the technician to solve our problem under the 2 year warranty that was given to us. Apparently, the motherboard has issues and had to be replaced.

I pressed the reset button - as recommended for the cartridge to be detected and ..miracle: the cartridge problem vanished as well as the error 5010 message!!!!!!!! I printed a document with no problem... For how long this will be ok though I cannot tell..

It can be simply a disconnected ribbon coming from the scanner. It is easily disconnected and it is sufficient to connect again by opening the right side of the printer (three screws) and carefully puting it again in place without diconnecting it again (very easy!!)
