If you can’t get the manufacturer to fix it or send you the parts you may want to try and fix it yourself.I found a guy in South Carolina who sells good used parts and will give you some suggestions on how to do it yourself.I bought a LCD from him for $39.00, fixed it myself and it works great.I think his email is firstname.lastname@example.org

Check out with ifixit dot come, if you can buy a "lens kit" as you name it. Perhaps you also can find out how to replace the lens barrel and see what tools you need.
Still I think you are better off with a certified repair centre. And you also should check out what a new camera costs.

You will most likely need to send the camera in for service. There really is no way to repair this problem on your own. Since
you are not out of your 1 year manufacturer's warranty, you will not
yet qualify for the upgrade program, however Canon does offer deep
discounts in the Canon Loyalty program for situations like yours once
you are beyond the one year manufacturer's warranty. It may be true
that it would cost more to repair than to replace, and that's why the
Loyalty program is great because you will at least save a bundle on
getting another camera.
