Re: How to increase internet access speed ?

I have found a couple of sites that may be of some help as the problem is so complex there is no "One Fix" fits all so to speak.. Ya have to troubleshoot. I "Googled" this ---> troubleshooting slow internet speeds got a lot of good stuff. There are many programs that claim to increase ya speeds... be very skeptical about these they seldom work...

If you really only have 256MB of Ram then that would be the first thing to change. I would upgrade to at least 1GB of RAM for XP. There are also many unnecessary services that are loaded on start up. You can find many tips on speeding up XP by shutting down services you don't need.

The memory increase should make a big difference.

How to increase my internet/downloading speed?

More than likely, the 460.8 figure is in kiloBITS per second, which means your downloads measured in kiloBYTES per second will be at a maximum, 57.6, which is still obviously higher than you are getting. One thing to consider is that you might not be in an area that supports 3G. That will affect your speed. Also, on the windows end, you can try this little (free) utility that will optimize your TCP settings in the registry:
this utility is not a "speed optimizer" snake-oil program that just compresses images or something cheesy like that. It was actually mentioned on TechTV.

Slow computer since installing Norton 360

Actually all Norton products slow down the computers. Why dont you uninstall Norton 360, and see whether the performance of your computer has increased,if it does, ill recommend you to install Bitdefender Internet Security 2008, please check link below:
it is a review of all the security softwares. and also ill recommend you to install, Tuneup Utilities 2008, it will keep your computer clean of junk files.

Hope this helps you.
