Unfortunately many programs "Interfere" with the Screen Saver.. certain programs actually "Disable" it. The only "Fix" as it were is some sort of "Work around" perhaps, another screen saver program may work? As a thought tho, have you had a look on the Microsoft hardware Forum site? Perhaps something there may shed some light on it?

I need help about my screensaver, that doesn't work, I have windows 7 and the HP support can't fix it. If I choose any opcion of the default windows 7 screensaver and I prove it with the preview...

There is probably something stopping your system going to sleep. Do you have a cheap optical mouse that creeps across the screen when untouched or a dodgy wireless keyboard and mouse that continues to poll the USB port to keep itself and the PC awake?

My xp does not work well. the screensaver does not appear. It can not repair itself.

Hello, there can be multiple causes and solutions to this type of problem you have but my guess is that there is a service not running properly for the screensaver as in THIS Microsoft article.

To view services to see if the Human Interface driver is working go to start->Run->type in the box "services.msc" without the double quotes, and then find the service mentioned in the microsoft article.

OR you can use the registry editor to modify your screensaver settings (PLEASE ASK FOR FURTHER HELP OR CLARIFICATION WITH THIS / USE WITH CAUTION IF YOU DONT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING).

SImple example: Go to start->Run-> type in "regedit" and then go to the following registry entry/folder: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\ there you can find the screensaver key named:ScreenSaveActive, if set to 0 set it to 1 and vice versa to enable/disable screensaver modify settings. The screensaver only occasionally works. I am using a Microsoft wireless mouse

To get the screensaver work perfectly perform the following steps on the notebook:
1. Go to Device manager
2. Click on the + sign next to the Human interface devices and let me know the entries listed there.
3. Right click on HID - Compliant Consumers Control Device and choose update driver.

Screensaver is not coming on

This is a common issue which usually happens if there is a Wireless Mouse or Keyboard being used with the Notebook.
To confirm this, try unplug the Wireless Mouse/Keyboard and set the Screensaver time to 1 or 2 Minutes and the Screensaver should appear.
If this happens, you need to check if the PCM and DVDLauncher services are running in the background and disable them from Services window by stopping the Services and setting the Startup Type to Manual.
Now, connect the Wireless device back to the Notebook and visit the following website to find any Updates available.
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

The available Updates will be listed which you need to install in the Notebook to resolve the issue with the Screensaver.
Hope this helps....

Screen Saver no longer runs when Microsoft wireless mouse 3000 is installed.

this is a common problem when using wireless equipment in windows. Especially on Dell notebooks. The PCMService.exe program starts when the computer starts and interaction at some level between this and the Wireless reciever prevents the computer from becoming idle. Therefore, the screen saver and the other idle-related features do not start. this issue may also occur if the PCM and DVDLauncher services are running in the background. This issue also occurs in Windows Vista premium and in Windows Vista Ultimate because of the media center functionality that is built in.

Microsoft reccommends plugging in your wireless device and visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to get the "optional hardware update" named "Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter." This should fix the problem.

Microsoft also reccommends two possible "workarounds" for this problem if you do not want to install the update or if the update does not work, both are relatively simple:

1- turn off the PCMService.exe program. to do this, first you open the system configuration (start->run->msconfig.exe). on the startup dab of the configuration window, click to clear the PCMService startup item check box. Apply, Close, and if/when prompted, restart your computer.
2- Remove the PowerDVD Software (not advised if you use this software for watching DVD's on your notebook). To do this, open the add or remove programs window (start->run->appwiz.cpl), locate PowerDVD, click change/remove, and follow the steps through for removal of the program.

Screensaver will not activate...

I would remove the software for your keyboard. This will hand control of the screen saver back over to windows. Some keyboards come with third party software that conflicts with windows. If you want a functional set of "extra stuff" on your keyboard, then your best bet is to try one from another manufacturer.
