I just received my new uniden scanner, and I am having problems with charging the radio. I was wondering do I have to have batteries in it ,to charge it with the dc that came along with the radio. How do I charge the radio without having to use batteries? I do have the in wall plug that came with it,but it's still not working without useing the batteries.

What model Uniden scanner is it? All scanners that I have seen require batteries to be added before they will charge or operate. They do not have a built in battery pack in most cases.

You need o have the battery installed in the radio in order to be charge. For the most part, the radio can be on and will charge you batteries. However, if you can, let it charge overnite... this usually is the recommendation given at the manual.

The BC72XLT is a battery-operated scanner, and your power supply is a battery charger, not a battery eliminator. You must have batteries in the unit for it to operate. You can install rechargeable batteries and use it in conjunction with the power supply, or you can run it on non-chargeable alkaline batteries.

I have a Uniden UHF CB Handheld Model # UH076SX-NB. Have had it for 3 years and only used a dozen times. Now I can receive but unable to transmit. Any solutions please?

How do you know that the radio does not transmit? The batteries need to be fully charged, or new to transmit. The radio is old, and the cost to repair it may be close to how much a new CB radio is.

Good luck.

Charge but no charge

Make sure the 3 AAA batteries are placed in the unit correctly and make sure the correct rechargeable batteries are being used. Also make sure the outlet you are using to plug your radio in is actually working. If it is new give it a full 14 hours for the first charge. If you do all of this and it is not charging then you have either a faulty power cord, bad batteries or you have a malfunction in the charging area of your radio.

I have a uniden bear cat scanner

That scanner dates back to 1987, so chances are that the battery pack is well beyond charging. I found a new battery pack here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/WALKIE-TALKIE-BATTERY-UNIDEN-RADIO-BC100XLT-BC200XLT-/310272646372?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483db0dce4
but it will set you back more than $90. Another option is to open/dismantle the battery back and use a battery insert. You can purchase one for $12.95 here: http://www.batterybarn.com/jbbt049.htm
The original battery is rated at 7.2VDC, but the charging circuit is set up for 12VDC at 500mA, so stay with your 12 volt charger.

Ac addapter not working

I had the same issue when I first got my scanner. There is a switch in the battery compartment that you need to set so it will charge the batteries. It is there so if you're using non rechargeable batteries you wont charge them in ruin your scanner when they leak/explode. Hope this works for you.

I have rechargeable batteries but they don't stay charged very long in the scanner. I know this didn't solve your problem but thought I would let you know about the cordless phone adapter.
