Re: momentary green light

If it reads and plays all the media types ok, you do not have a problem. If it does not read some of the media types, and not others, the Laser needs Cleaning and adjusting. Also, if your not comfortable cleaning the lens, See

Green light then red/green light then flashing red

1)Turn off your playstation 3. If you think your ps3 has been caught by the heat, then wait at least 20 minutes and put it back on again
2) Check if there's any loose cable.
3) Try to put out your playstation's hard-drive, and put it back in. You might want to repeat this 2-3 times for better results.

If this did not work

Send your playstation 3 back to Sony

The green light comes on for a couple of seconds then turns red and the game won't come out

This sounds like the "Yellow Light of Death". Does the console power on, flash a yellow light then go back to red, while beeping three times?

This YLOD is caused by excessive heat inside the console. Typically dust builds up and causes the machine to overheat. This damages the internal components. The good news is that a skilled professional can fix your problem.

Playstation shutdown and the indicator light flashes red? when i touch the button it goes to solid red, when i touch it again to turn it on the light goes green momentarilt the goes to flashing red???

That is also known as the yellow light of death because of the momentary flash of amber color. The issue here is overheating, meaning that the processors have become unseated due to unit overheating and motherboard flex in hot conditions. You PS3 will need to have the motherboard "reflowed", which is a heating process that reseats your solder joints on the motherboard. A trained Sony repairman or Sony themselves can repair it, but it will cost ya. I do repairs of this type quite often. If you are savvy enough, and have the correct tools for the job, there are videos on youtube that explain how to repair the PS3. Good luck!

Ps2 not spinning and light turning green then back to red

Your PS2 is probably experiencing a short circuit on the motherboard or the Emotion Engine is burned up. Sometimes the fan goes dead and the PS2 overheats and shuts down showing the red light. You can open the PS2 and clean up the motherboard and maybe it will recover.

Hi All,

Your Slim has a short circuit somewhere. I run a repair shop for Playstations and what I do is clean the Ciruit board and fan out real good to get rid of Dust and lint. Sometime the dust gets wet someway, and begins to conduct the power. This will cause the Slim to go green for a second and then back red.

  1. Remove the screw covers on the bottom of the slim
  2. Remove the screws, I think I remember 7 screws. At least 6.
  3. Remove any disc
  4. Pop the cover up from the back. Sometimes the Right side will not want to pop loose, but it is ok to force it.
  5. Disassemble the console guts carefully. Do not stand on carpet when working on the motherboard. Stand on wood, Ceramic, or Linoleum.
  6. Clean every speck of dust and lint out of the conole.
  7. REassemble and test.
I hope this works for you. Post another comment to this page and I will repsond. You might want to send it off for repair at

Wont turn on

Try cleaning it out using a can of compressed air. Too much dust inside will cause instant overheating. If it still doesn't go back on, your on/off switch is faulty.
