A friend very kindly lent me his PSC 2210 all-in-one. From internet searches it seems that it's dyslexic and had self-esteem issues, coz all searches for this printer take me to 2200 sites.
Anyway, plugging it gives it the juice to send me the message (in several different languages - a sign of dyslexia?) that:-
"Button is stuck. Release button."
Anybody have a clue WHICH button is stuck and how i should release it?
Acupressure massage is out of the question, but--other than that--I would be very grateful for any assistance the members of this site could give me.

Hi,
The only solution for this issue can be by removing the front panel overlay and reinstalling it again to fix the issue
You can see the below weblink for the instructions to remove and install the Front panel overlay
--------
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpu05204&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=79488&dlc=en&lang=en
----------
Once done try to unplug and replug the power chord from the back of the printer when it is ON so that this will drain all the power out of the printer once finished try to check with the issue..
Hope this fix the issue
Regards,
Barret.

The issue is with hardware of the printer.
Scan feature is most expensive and sensitive part of the printer.
I suggest you to contact HP support. If the printer is under warranty you may get a replacement printer or else they may give you a better option.
If not on warranty you may try this workaround:
With unit off, press the 'Cancel' (pink button) and 'Color' (green button).
This will start the printer in a diagnostic mode. Press '1' to run the diagnostics.
Press 'Enter' or other keys as directed by the display prompts. When you don't know what to press, the 'Enter' key usually works. Some of the keys called for (for example 'Plus' and 'Minus') are not on every psc 2210 keyboard. They are mapped to one of the "directional" keys just above the numeric keypad area next to the 'Enter' key. Keep trying keys till one works.
After all the diagnostics, the display will either go blank or display 'Initializing...' . Wait 10-20 seconds to make sure it isn't doing anything else then press the 'On' key.
The printer should start without the scanner error and the grinding/chattering noise.
Leave the printer on because the next power cycle brings the chattering noise back.
But, when it does, the procedure above seems to fix it every time.
Access the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.hp.com
Enter '2210' and do the search.
Select your device.
Select your Operating System.
Download the device-driver.
Install.
If the glass of your scanner is too close to the scanner array it can jam. The cure for this problem is to open the case and put some narrow strips paper under the glass. If under Guarantee take it back. Doubt if you can bypass the self test.
Try oprning up Windows Photo Gallery, then File tab at top, then click on Import from Scanner or Camera.
The HP should come up as an option, so click on it.
I found that with upgrade to Vista, the actual SCAN button on the HP 2210 did not work -- but this back door through Photo Gallery lets me scan and import the scan as a jpg file.
