When you do the skype test do you hear your own voice? If so, the problem is not in your microphone. What does your grand daughter see when in Skype she goes to Tools -> Options -> Audio settings?
After logging in to your Skype account with a PC.
Under Account > Subscriptions > Calling Subscriptions > Settings > Click on Cancel Subscription.
Also under Account > Billing and Payments > Make sure Auto Recharge is not enabled.
You will need a software that does the communication between the two computers.
The easiest way is to install Skype on both computers and you will be able to talk and see each other. Of course you need an internet connection....
Skype is a free program ( I use it since 5 or 6 years), very easy to setup ans will recognize your camera automatically. It can be downloaded for Windows, Mac and Linux from here:
Windows Live Messenger and Skype will both let you do audio/video connections for free, and are quite easy to use. You and your daughter will have to install the (same) application, create an account (you need an email address), and then add each other as a contact (by email address). Hope this helps.
