Question about Dell Inspiron Computers & Internet

Dell inspiron 15R win8/win7 dual boot went into coloured blocks, and pink and blue stripesi

While watching a video last night my dell inspiron 15R Win7/Win8 dual boot started displaying coloured blocks alternating with pink and blue vertical stripes. A restart tried to auto repair but after asking for choose OS, while booting again the same problem occurred. This happened many times. I tried to refresh the OS by inserting the installation disk. It didn't work. However after many such trials, and auto repairs, win8 booted normally. The error report mentioned the files c:\windows\Minidump\060213-26703-01.dmp, C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-76890-0-sysdata.xml, C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP as the files that will be sent to Microsoft for a solution. I received a message that the PC recovered from a crash, and asked me to solve a problem with the ATI Radeon Graphics card. Is it only a display card problem? Shall I update display driver? If so how? Thank you all

I would say your Graphics Adapter is going. Has it been overheating? Have you cleaned the Fan, Vents, Heatsink? Have you connected to a External Monitor? If the problem follows to the external monitor it's likely a Graphics Adapter problem, which is a problem in a laptop. Have you tried booting to Safe Mode? In safe mode your windows software will use the generic graphics driver.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your suggestion. I observed that the problem happened with Win 8. I tried to boot to Win 7. It seems the problem got carried to Win 7 also but it recovered to flash a message that your video display adapter stopped working and recovered. This happened a couple of times. When I tried to update the display card which is ATI Radeon 550v (Win8 showed it as 4650) windows said I have the latest driver. However, I downloaded the ATI Catalyst suite and installed it for Win 7. Luckily Win 8 also booted, and as my laptop which is Dell Inspiron 15R N5010, has no official support for Win 8 from Dell, I downloaded the ATI catalyst suite for Win 8 64 bit as suggested by some forums. Now Win8 is booting, but now and then I am getting the stripes and have to restart it again. I think it is an overheat problem as I find the system getting heated up quickly. Will servicing the laptop help?"

Try this one first.

How can i tell if my keyboard is backlit in inspiron 15r?

If you press any key on the keyboard, the back light should come on automatically. If not, hold down (Fn) function key and press "right arrow" with a blue florescent symbol until the back light is lit. Pressing the "right arrow" key while holding down the (Fn) key lits the back light and can also reduce, increase the light.
Hope this helps
