Re: ps3 cooling fan
Lol if i was you i would of buy a new external fan that goes on top of ur ps3 u can find one at game stop for like 30 bucks i had the same problem it seems to work ok but i am sending mine in just to play it safe u know
Ummm.... Don't. Or just duct tape the new one two the back of the ps3, splice the wires and run them to your washer/dryer plug and stick the copper wire in the 220 connection (you will have to unplug your dryer but your ps3 wont overheat anymore).

The best place to look is online for one. Search trusted sites like Amazon, Newegg, Tigerdirect, and FrozenCP. I don't know if you can find these in stores anymore due to the Slim being out and it being the main one with any support left. I have included a link to get you started.
it sounds like your ps3 is overheating, which is a common problem with the console. this happens when you play a lot and for long periods, it also can happen if the fan has stopped working or there is not enough air getting into the system to keep the gpu and cpu cool. games are very graphic power hungry thus putting the gpu under pressure and causing it to heat up, and if there is no air or not enough air getting into your system to keep the gpu cool, it will overheat and cause your game to freeze. 1st thing you should do id make sure that the fan is working at the back of your console, just turn on your console and look to see that the fan is spining, if this spinning then thats good, if not thats your problem there and will probably need to be replaced. If it's spinning then most likely there is just not enough air getting into the system, so you should move your ps3 outm into an open space to allow plenty air to get into it, you can also give the fan a clean of any dust and dirt, and if you have some sort of an air blower, give the ps3 a quick blow out through the air vent at the back of the console. Hope this helps.
Don't do anything your fan is just fine it's just running faster to keep it cool when you hear a clicking sound at high speed then you should be worried about it cause your fan is failing and should be replaced
THIS CAN BE SOLVED IF YOUR PS3 IS OUT OF WARRANTY The yellow flashing dot of death does normally mean that your PS3 is Dead but there is a way to fix it My PS3 would not start and the indication light just flashed between yellow and red Your options are: New PS3 £250, PS3 from Sony second hand £150 or £5 fix 1.Undo the screw below the warranty sticker in bottom of PS3 2.Slide the lid of 3.Remove all bolts 4.Remove all main components until the mother board is free from the unit 5.Remove the thermal gel on the back of the 2 main chips to the heat sinks 6.Clean any excess dust by blowing away do not use and dusters or leky equipment 7.Level up the m board and heat over all the board with a heat gun, needs to be really hot to melt the solder but not damage the board or components 8.Allow to cool and turn over repeat the above 9.Buy some thermal gel online and replace the gel removed of the chips using a credit card 10.Once cool after 15 to 20 mins replace all the components and PS3 Lid 11.Run a fan test on your ps3 (turn of at the back hold down the eject disk button and turn back on keeping the eject disc button held down until fan starts) 12.Turn you ps3 on and bam your back on COD or FIFA (add wadhapa) Hope this is of some help but this is only recommended if your PS3 is out of warranty and you are not sending it back for a Second hand Sony one
If the PLAYSTATION 3 feels extremely hot or the system will power off and the power light will flash, this could be an indicator there is a temperature issue with the PLAYSTATION 3 and it is not able to keep the system cool. Please attempt the following troubleshooting steps.
Remove any obstructions from the vents.
Allow at least 4 inches of clearance on all sides for the PLAYSTATION 3.
Remove the PLAYSTATION 3 from any cabinets so it is out in the open.
Shut the PLAYSTATION 3 down completely and let it cool down to room temperature, then try running it again.
If the fan cannot be heard before the system shut down, the PLAYSTATION 3 may need to be sent in for service.
If there is no airflow from any of the vents, the system may need to be sent in for service.
hi there, this is a problem with the system cooling state. your ps3 is unable to operate at an acceptable temperature due to this malfunction in the cooling fan regulator. unfortunately, this is a repair that will have to be preformed by a skilled Sony tech.
I have solution for all of you. You need to call sony at 1-800-345-7669. They will send you a box so you can place you unit in (ps3). If you got warrany on your ps3 they will ask you to send in a copy to varify that it is still in warrany. If it is then they will not charge you anything they will open up the system and see what the problem is either fix the ps3 or they will replace it with a refuribished one. Also you need to make sure that the warrany tag on the ps3 upper right side is still there or they will charge you 150 dollars. And if the serial on the back is removed they will not even service your unit. If you unit is not in warrany they will charge you 150 dollars. Wich is real good because they will dust the interior of it good luck everyone...
