this is most likeley due to a trojan virus impersonating as win32 host process. review all services running and pay close attention to any service that looks weird. Run DRWEB free trojan cleaner you can download it by googling it.
Basically, your error comes from a program that may not be compatible with Vista. Would you mind listing the software that was installed on the computer?
First, update the using Windows update, if you never updated the PC, this may take a minute.
When you computer comes on, press F2, F4, or Esc key to go into setup. You PC will tell you which button to press, you have to look quickly.
There should be an option for memory, it will tell you what is installed.
When the computer is updated, see if the error comes up.
For the video card, does your card have a port similar to this:
Then you need a DVI cable, which is an inexpensive cable you can pick up at Radio Shack.
I would just run a full reinstall if I were you but try this first:
Boot and insert Vista install or recovery DVD (any Vista disc will do for this)
Reboot and hopefully it will offer the option to boot from the DVD. Take this option and follow it through until you are offered the option to install Vista or repair your computer. Just follow things though from there and it MAY repair the problem.
If it does not offer you the initial boot option then look on the initial boot screen for the boot options key - probably F11 or F12 - and press that during initial boot to obtain the boot options screen
After that its a full reinstall by the sounds of it - save your data to a stick or DVD first though
Turning off thumbnails will probably stop you getting that error
DO: Open Control Panel > Folder Options > Always show Icons, Never Thumbnails
However, this isn't actually fixing the problem.
Do you have Nero installed by any chance?
If so try: Open Computer > System Drive > Program files > Common Files > Ahead > DSfilter. Rename "NeroVideoProc.ax" to "1NeroVideoProc.ax" Also rename "NeVideo.ax" to "1NeVideo.ax"
