Yes, you must set up your fax machines like this: The receiving fax must be set to auto receive and the telephone line must be inserted in the "line" input. A line must then be connected from the "Tel" to the "Line" of the Transmitting machine, which must be set to "manual receive." This is not really a satisfactory way of doing things as you can't send and receive 2 machines on the same line together. A much better way is to have 2 lines. with a machine attached to each. Get the tel company to put "No answer transfer" on the line as an accesory. Give them the number of the fax machine that transmits. Make it "manual receive" Now you have a versatile system that you can also use the office telephone with.
If you want to use the FAX - use the dedicated line to the FAX Machine..
Hi check the following steps Problems with sending and receiving FAX
Check the TELEPHONE LINE
Make sure that you have plugged the phone cord directly and securely
into the wall jack and into the back port of the fax product. The fax
port on your product is marked "Line," "To Wall Jack," or with a wall
jack symbol.
Check LIU
Make sure the Line Interface Unit (box that the phone cord plugs into) is fully seated into the back of the fax product.
Remove the SPLITTER
Remove any other devices from the line such as splitters, credit card machines, or telephone answering machines.
Can try sending the Fax on Another Line
CHECK WITH DIFFERENT CABLE Try using a different telephone cord.
Could the message be reading "TAD"? If you have an answering machine hooked up anywhere on the same line as the fax, you need to refer to page 16 of your manual. Set your answering machine to 2 rings and de-activate the toll saver mode. If you have a dedicated fax line without the TAD, set your fax recieving mode to fax only by pressing the MODE button under the LCD display untill fax only isindicated
To set up for receiving Fax, do the following:
Press Mode button repeatedly untin Fax and Fax/Tel lights are lit.
Faxes will automatically print and answering machine will take the calls. If you have a dedicated fax line, do the following:
Press Mode button repeatedly until just the FAX light is lit. Then the machine will answer every call as a fax.
Problem lies in your Receive Mode setting. If you don't have a dedicated phone line for the fax machine, you need to set it up for either Manual where you answer every call or Fax/Tel whereby the Fax machine determines if the incoming call is a fax or phone call. Instructions per Intellifax 4100 Manual.
Select a Receive Mode
Choose the mode that best suits your needs by pressing the Mode button
repeatedly until the FAX and FAX/TEL lights show the setting you want to use.
Manual
You must answer every call yourself.
The Brother machine must be started manually
to receive faxes.
Fax
For use with a dedicated fax line.
Every call is answered as a fax.
Fax/Tel
For receiving fax and voice calls on one line.
The FAX answers every call and receives a fax or
double rings for you to pick up a voice call.
TAD
For use with an answering device.
The TAD answers every call and stores voice messages.
Fax messages are printed.
if your fax is on a dedicated fax line, make sure your display says "fax only" or "auto". if not on a dedicated line, you'll have to give more info on what kind of hook up you have. in other words, is there an answering machine hooked inline, etc.
Pick up the receiver and see if you hear a fax tone noise. If so then push the start button and hang up. Is this machine on a dedicated line or shared with the main phone number? Sometimes some people will pick up the receiver on their fax machine dial the fax number and wait for a tone before sending. If this is the case the machine can not recognize that is a ax. Make sure your machine is set for auto receive if it is on a dedicated line.
