you can try another sim, however the iphone must be activated on a usa computer with a usa ip address.

I tried it with Saudi Sim, India Sim, US sim and UK sim, it worked.

What you need to do is get a software pack called JailBreak.

This will allow you to use any sim card.
And you wont need to do it on a USA computer with a US zip code.
