Question about Protron PLTV-32 Television
I've been getting the BS runaround from Protron since last May, 2007...same story...the ac adaptor is on back order call back in 14 days....I am going to report Protron to the attorney general in Virginia....They are a worthless company!
I had a power supply for my Protron 32 inch TV that was not working. I bought the one on ebay and it stopped working after only three weeks. Ultimately I found a guy who could fix my original power supply for a reasonable price. It's been working for a year now with no problems. I wish I would have tried him first!!!! Just an update: I ordered the DC adaptor from LCDPayless on Ebay, it works fine. Not cheap though....

I have had the exact same problems with the Protron PLTV-32 as described by the previous emails. I too purchased it through ShopNBC in June 2005. My adaptor failed in Sept. 2007, had to wait 4 months and after multiple and weekly calls, finally got it in Dec.2007. Then the TV failed. Took it to a local authorized repair shop, and was told it needed a new motherboard. ShopNBC refused to take responsibility. Protron insisted on a $250 check to cover the cost of the board. This is early Jan. 2008.To date, end of May 2008, after weekly calls, speaking to numerous reps, and sending a registered letter to corporate haedquarters w/o response, I have still not received the board, but they certainly cashed the check. Each time it is a different excuse, supplier, warehouse problem etc. On the last call several days ago, I blew a fuse and accused them of lying and committing fraud. I looked up the better business bureau in Cal. and found they have multiple complaints against them. They now operate under the name Spectroniq. It seems they feel they can get away with knowingly selling defective sets, and not backing up their products with parts or refunds of monies paid.This is because no one has litigated against them and they feel people will just swallow the loss.
I'm not a lawyer, but I do know a class action suit needs at least 3 plaintiffs, and by the looks of the amount of people, at least 20 have been similarly defrauded. If an attorney would get involved, probably in Cal., as that is their location, it might be lucrative enough to take on the case and sue both Protron and ShopNBC for deceptive sales, advertising and fraud, as well as theft, for taking money not returning it. I would definitely be interested in participating. I just found this website and hope to communicate and brainstorm to deal with this situation. I am so angry I could scream. We are all being screwed in so many ways today, we cannot let this go. It has already cost me nearly $1800. They may well respond if they are sued, as it appears they have not been to date. Remember, even the big corps., like General Motors, big tobacco, and Microsoft, really didn't want the bad publicity and realized it would have been better to settle.

I bought a Protron DVD player from buy.com and it came damaged. I called buy.com and they said to send it to Protron, which I did. I have been waiting for 6 months for a replacement unit. I will never buy from BUY.COM or Protron. Here is my call log with Protron:

I also purchased an LCD Payless replacement adaptor set and it died after a month. They sent a new set and it also died. Obviously a problem with the TV and not the power supply. Seems like such a waste but I guess it's time to recycle.

LCDPAYLESS is the way to go. I got them bid down to $105 plus shipping and the unit came in the mail in less than a week. It is made up of two power suplies, one is 12 volt and the other is 5 volt which are the correct rated voltages and amperage for the set. It not only works but solves the picture distortion problem when using full screen. The symptom of incorrrect voltage is that most people and things looked "fat" or "stretched out" on the sides (approx 1/4 of the picture area on each side of the picture). This must have been a sign that the original power supply was bad (incorrect or weak voltage rating) right from the very begining. The IC chips in the power supply units might have been of source material with poor tolerance to save money and slapped together quick to mass market to ShopNBC, then the problems got passed on to us the consumers. I noticed that ShopNBC does not carry this brand anymore, looks like they are trying to distance themselves. Where is Jim Peterson saying the sets would "last 25 years". I hate it that ShopNBC drones on and on with sales pitches with such fantastic claims. Class action might be the way to go. Protron might have known about the incorrect weak voltage problem but rushed it to market anyway. They may have put a quick one over on ShopNBC with the promo sets, need to look into this.

Have you thought about taking the problem to the news media? I know when I lived in SoCA I think it was called " 7 ON YOUR SIDE" It was there to help the consumer. Great results, however, I no longer live in CA so they wouldn't be interested in hearing from me. So come on CA this could help all of us.

I had the same problem with the Protron 32" LCD TV. After getting the run around by the Home office I decided to bite the bullet & do it on my own. I found a replacement adapter at LCDPAYLESS.COM . Place the order and had everything within a week. Now that I have a working adapter, I'm waiting for that piece of crap TV to go up in smoke. I'll never do business with Protron, SpectronIQ, or Shop NBC again.

I also purchased the Protron from ShopNBC in April 2005, and the power adapter failed in Jan. 2007. Same story, repeated calls and two week promises. However, I got a local number for the company, I live in So. Orange County, Ca., and finally talked to the warehouse. It took another three months with weekly calls, but I got 2 new adapters!!!!
Guess what....TV stopped working...repairman said to recycle it.
So I have 2 adapters and nothing to adapt!

I to have had the problem getting a new d/c adapter since March 2007. They say the same things over and over again. Call back in two weeks on back order the warehouse said it will be in 2 weeks. The last time in September they said to send a check for $79.99, which I did but they haven't cashed the check. I'm wondering is they're any brand a/c adapter that we can use in it's place?

I read on another website that Protron will never provide replacement parts for the remote or AC adaptor. I have had my 32" LCD for just over two years and today it decided to die. Up until today, it has been a great TV, but I won't buy a "no name" tv again.

Lcdpayless on ebay sells a compatible adaptor for $125.00. Considering just buying it from them.
