Re: hook up

This one is simple. first connect the hot water hose to either inlet. now turn on washer for cold water only. if no water enters machine, you have it correct. now connect cold water to other one. now repeat cold water wash...does water come in?

My machine sometimes will not start when using just cold water. I don't have it hooked up to the hot water faucet because I don't use hot water. I switched the cold water hook up hose to the hot water...

If you live in or near a big city, there is a part you might use that might solve this problem. I bought one for my daughter's house. It is a "split hose", it is in the shape of a "Y". You screw the bottom of the "y" to the water outlet, then screw the top two legs of the "Y" to each of the connectors on the back of the machine, means you have whatever water that the Y is hooked to going in to both of the connections on the back of your machine.

Be blessed.

Do you have to have the hot water hooked up to work properly

on the older washers you can run it on just cold water but i looked up your machine and it has an electronic water temp. control board in it so most likely you do need both the hot and cold water hooked up,the part number for the board is 3407125 and it's around 50 dollars at sears, but if all you have to do is hook up the hot water line do it and see what happens, most likely it should work.what problem are you having?

I moved my washer and didn't notice how the hoses were connected. Is the hot on top or bottom? Thanks

There should be markings on the washer near the inlet valve that will have a "H" or "C" for hot or cold. If not, hook the hoses up and run cold water only. If the water comes out hot, you will know that the hoses are crossed. It won't hurt anything to run the machine this way.

I believe it is the water pump but, I would like to confirm. When the washer is filling up it leaks out from the bottom.

If you are sure it's leaking during the fill cycle, check the hose that goes from the fill valve (the plastic part that the washing machine hot and cold hoses hook up to) to the top of the tub. From the fill valve follow the hose that goes toward the top of the tub and look for loose clamps or fittings. Along the way, there is an item called an 'air gap' that prevents water from siphoning back into the water supply. Look for cracks in this component. Finally, check the fill spout for proper alignment and mounting or cracks.

Machine stopped in the spin cycle, now only makes noise.

Be sure BOTH fill hoses are hooked up and TURNED ON. What happens is (commonly) hot and cold hoses are installed reversed, and no one really notices.....Then Dad gets a big hot water bill and turns off the HOT water (actually hooked up to the cold input on the machine), so when the machine gets to the rinse cycle, no water comes in, and it waits patiently (forever) for water which never comes. The buzzing is the water valve. This is the most common problem.

Can neighbor use washer using cold water hook-up only?

Good day,
Yes if cold wash and rinse are used only. If the selector is set to warm accidentally, water would fly out of the hot water port when filling. Be careful, or hook up another cold water supply to the hot inlet.

Im installing a Maytag 412 top loading washing machine. Im not sure if it is the top input for hot or cold? Could you please help. Thanks, Tim

Without the complete model number, I'll have to inform you like this.
If it's red it's the hot inlet. Blue is the cold. If not colored. Normally the case has and H and a C stamped into them next to the corresponding inlet.
If all else fails do this. Hook up the water lines to either one. Now with both water lines hooked up and both the cold and hot water turned on. Plug the machine in. Use the selector on the console and set it to cold wash. Turn on and let it have time to turn hot ifit's going to. Feel the water temp. If it's warm or hot, swap the lines. If not, you have them correct. If the water is warm or hot, swap the connections. Good luck!

Hot water just trickles in both of my Kenmore top loader washers

Try reversing hot for cold hoses and see what happens. That will test your valves, hot water pressure, etc. As far as I know, the valve screens are right where the hoses hook up.

Water flows in cold side of water valve and out hot side valve

It seems unlikely that something went wrong just from moving it unless it got banged up!
It sounds like you may have stripped the hot side.
I'm assuming the water is going in the cold side and out the hot side and out the back.
If this is so and you are happy with just cold water try this:
Go to a Plumbing Store and buy a cap for the leaking intake...if it still leaks you can try soldering the two together!
I hope this was helpful.
Good Luck!
