There is are 3 bolts securing the starter motor, the starter motor is located under the passenger seat area and should be accessed from under the vehicle. The key is to get the van high enough to be able to slide comfortable under the side of the van to access all bolts, only the bottom bolt has a bolt and a nut the other 2 bolts have threads which secure the starter motor onto the engine there is one bolt at the bottom, one bolt in the middle and one bolt near the very top you will have to undo the 2 x 10mm bolts that hold the dip stick first to be able to get to the middle and top bolt of the stater motor. take your time and have some patience you will get it it just takes practice.

The key to removing the top bolt is the correct tool - a flexible socket extension.

Open the hood on the Marquis and disconnect the negative battery cable from its post with a socket wrench. Wrap the entire metal terminal end of the cable with electrical tape. As you lay the cable down within the engine area, be sure it's not in direct contact with any other metal or the engine itself.
Remove the small plastic cover on the starter's power wires to access the retaining nuts underneath it. The cover should come off by hand. If you have any trouble removing it, use a flat-head screwdriver to assist you.
Label each of the starter's wires clearly with white painter's tape before removing them. Use a socket wrench to loosen both of the nuts holding the power wires in place, then remove the nuts and wires by hand. On the 4.6-liter engine, the starter has a third wire that's a push-on connection. Remove the wire by gently pulling it off its connection.
Remove the top retaining bolt on the starter. It will require the use of a flexible socket extension bar because of the cramped space. Support the starter with one hand and remove the bottom retaining bolt. If you have a different engine other than the 4.9 liter, the starter may have a third retaining bolt. After removing the starter's retaining bolts, slowly lower the starter from its position on the engine. Install the starter by simply reversing this procedure exactly.

This first nut will allow you to take off the ground connection, however the bolt has another nut further in (to the left) which is totally hidden. Remove this first nut.
2. After the first nut is off, remove the ground wire, then using a deep socket 15mm socket remove the second nut which is attached to the bolt.
3. Go under the vehicle to remove the wires from the Starter. The first wire is the positive cable (should be red) attached on the solenoid portion of the starter. That is a 13mm nut, Remove the nut and lock washer and detatch the wire. The second wire (single small gauge) goes to the solenoid and is connected using a slide lock - press release connection. It is difficult to see the slide lock and the press release located on the top side of the connection. Slide the red slide lock out and press the release, and pull out the connection straight out. Do not force it, or it may damage the connector. Note the placement of the bottom bolt position on the Starter. DO NOT remove the two (2) small, but long connector bolts on the wire connection end of the starter.
4. Remembering the noted postion: remove the lower 15mm bolt from the Starter. The bolt head is located on the back side of plate moving towards the left side of the Van. It is easily accessed from underneath in front of the transmission. Near the end of removing this bolt, support the starter or it will fall out.
5. Remove the Starter, noting the position of the starter. There should be a separate starter facing plate. If if didn't come down with the starter check up in the starter to flywheel opening and remove the plate.
6. Installation is Reverse of above. The facing plate is a little tricky getting it to stay in place. By starting with the bottom bolt it is easier, Make sure you continuously support the Starter in position to save crossthreading the bolt or starter. Hand tighten only the bottom bolt as youwnat to be able to turn the starter slightly to get the top bolt in.
Starter Bolts are tigthen to 35 ft-lbs.

the starter motor is placed at the back of the engine and is quite tricky to get to,there are two 13mm bolts holding it on.the bottom is quite easy to get out but the top bolt is a bolt with a extra thread on the end with another nut which holds the earth cable in place,you first have to remove the 13mm nut and earth cable and then get a deep 13mm socket and remove the bolt.then simply take out your old starter and replace new one then put top bolt in,put earth cable back on and then the nut told cable and bottom nut then its done!!! jope this helps.

remove 13 mm nut holding batt cable to starter. remove single wire starter solenoid connector. remove 2 15mm bolts holding starter to bellhousing and remove. starter shim is marked "up" so you can't get it back in wrong.
