New Samsung Galaxy Note 10.0 battery life and charging time

My brand new galaxy note 10.0 has never had a good battery lifespan, about 4 hours with all the power saving turned on except for auto screen brightness. And it takes at least hours to charge from the wall outlet with the supplied connectors. Is this normal? The specs said 8 hours battery life, but even if that is overly optimistic, mine has about half that. Is there a test I can run that will give me info? Thanks for any help!

Sounds normal to me!!
The further away from wifi router you are the more power is needed by the wifi card.... etc etc so the 8 hours is in perfect conditions with the screen brightness at minimum and no apps running!! It's safe to say that, whatever battery life is quoted for any device you should only expect to acheive half that in the real world.
The screen is prob responsible for 80% of the battery's power drain. Turn the brightness down. Stay in same room as router. close down un-used apps that demand cpu and network (wifi card) time.
Shut it down completely when charging don't just let slip into standby. Also don't charge it on a cold or hot place such as a window sil. To high or low tempretures will increase charge time and will damage the battery lowering it's capacity.

SOURCE: How do I know when my Samsung Galaxy Tablet is

The Tab takes quite a long time to charge (not sure why). Note that the Tab cannot charge from a computer USB port (only from the included AC adapter. When the Tab has finished charging, it should put out a notification (open the notification drawer by pulling down on the status bar) saying the battery is fully charged and to unplug the charger. Other than that, you would have to install a third-party app like Smart Battery Monitor (see here) and watch that to see when it is full.
Hope this helps, Alistair

SOURCE: samsung galaxy tablet is not

Make sure you are using the AC adapter as the Tab cannot charge solely from a USB cable connected to a computer or similar. If it is still not charging, your device's battery or connector has probably failed and will need to be replaced.
Hope this helps, Alistair

SOURCE: SAMSUNG GALAXY TABLET NOT CHARGING OR TURNING ON

Hi buckpot2001,

To correct this issue, please follow the steps below.

1. Press and hold down the power button whilst at the same time touching the screen (you may have to wait up to 30 seconds as it clears the system).

2. You will then notice the battery indicator pops up.

3. The Tablet will then reboot. Everything goes back to normal.

4. If that fails to work, connect the power cable and repeat the above steps.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: yes I dropped my galaxy

Send it back to the manufacturer for repair or get a new one. You cannot repair this yourself.

SOURCE: why is there a red cross on the battery icon of galaxy tab though its fully charged?

I studied my galaxy note 10.1. when i use the original wall charger it charges well, fast an no red cross appears. when i hook it to the usb of my laptop then the red cross apears and the tab reports that it is not on battery ( look at the time on battery it does not change) the battery also remains at the same charge level that it was when i hooked it up. when i use the car charger it does the same as with the laptop. my conclusion is that when hooked to the car and/or laptop the battery does not charge, but the tablet is running of the power from the external source and not the battery. this seems to be a very clever move from samsung to preserve the battery when it cannot be charged by the device it is hooked up to.

Why does my Samsung 8.0 tablet keep saying device is overheating?

That does not sound right. I have had several Samsung tablets and never saw that. If the tablet it new it sounds like it might be defective.

Why is my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" charging very slow.

There are a several reasons why the Galaxy Note 10.1 is not charging as much.
1. Too many application are turned on (check the task manager)
2. Too many notifications icon are turned on ( bluetooth, gps, wifi, etc.)
3. Plugging your charger using a computer

Are you using the original charger and plugging it into a wall charger?

How long did you use the Note 10.1 previous to noticing the damage? and was it extremely hot at the back?

If so, then maybe the battery isn't picking up from the charger. I've watched back to back movies while still using the charger but this can prove very devastating on the charger's outlet which became extremely hot after 4-5 hours or so of charging continuously. It turns out, the galaxy note 10.1 can withstand 8+ hours of ongoing movies but the charger outlet cannot. *If I didn't unplug it after 4-5 hours, the plug what have fried.

In this case, i believe the charger is more likely damaged than the Galaxy Note 10.1, which is more of a better scenario. Especially, since you charged it for over 24 hours, meaning it's charging something, but very slowly. Operating Galaxy Note while charging can prove detrimental in the charger's outlet and can in fact burn out.

I hope this info is helful,

A samsung galaxy player 3.6 that wont turn on

The charger has a function that restores the battery operation parameters by discharging then charging the battery a number of times. Refer to charging instructions in the pack but I think the cycle is a 3 hourly one, time to charge from a full discharge. If the charger thinks the battery is dead then it will try to recover the battery using this process. You may have left the charger on long enough to charge then also discharge the battery.
Start again and charge for the time in the instructions ONLY, if you are not sure of the time try it for an hour, then without disconnecting the charger turn the unit on and take particular note of any screen messages, if any.
You should be able to continue as normal now, but still be aware of the time you are leaving the charger connected for, as it may take some time before it returns to normal operation and stops trying to recover what it thinks is a dead battery.
