You probably will be able to for a little while, until the headend your DCT talks back to gets around to polling it. Polling is when the main computer checks all of the cable boxes in its' domain for channel auths, pay-per-view purchases, and other behind the scene info. If the DCT isn't registered on the system, the headend will send a disconnect signal...eventually.
This may happen in either a couple of days, or a few days, (hedging here) depending on the polling schedule.
You may also find that while the DCT is operating, initially, the channel map maybe different, if your box was from another city or state.
As to whether Comcast will allow registering a box that was bought, and not rented properly through them, that is highly debatable. There's no rule I am aware of against that, however.
Good Luck,
DCT Goddess

I have 2 DCT6200/1000 boxes with Charter cable. One box on Sony 32" KDL-32XBR9 flat panel, the other on a Sony 40" KDL-40V5100. Both using composite cables. When I change to an HD channel (on either TV), the on-screen menu and channel display stops working. I have tried the "Menu" button on the box, but it doesn't work either. Everything is fine on non-HD channels. Any assistance would be appreciated.

In order to save energy on a setup that is used only rarely, I turn the entire entertainament centre off using the power bar switch after all the units are turned off. When I turn the power bar back on and turn on the units, I get a situation where the picture is pixillating frequently during the first twenty minutes and occasionally after the warm up period. Is turning it off the wrong thing to do, or do I have a mechanical problem with the box.
