SOURCE: DVD Tray will not open
I purchased this unit back in Mid November to make DVD's of my kids old VHS tapes. To date I have probably have made 400 DVD's. Sunday we came home from being gone all day and the unit was locked up. I tried the reset button, unplugged the unit etc to no avail. I unplugged the unit all Sunday night and looked at it again on Monday morning. I was ready to take the unit back to Best Buy and the unit ejected the DVD and has worked for 2 days (Recorded another dozen DVD's). Tonight while reading the paper a message came on my monitor that there was a problem with the disk and instructed me to push the "enter" button which shut the unit off and was suppose to recover the disc. The recorder is now locked up again. A number of 000000's flashes accross the display and the unit constantly cycles off/on. So it is trying to recover but is obviously not being successful. I am going to try the same thing tonight. I am not sure if I have a bad set of blank DVD's. They are Sony -DVD R, same ones I have been using all along. I do remember having this "Error" message when I first started this project and I had to unplug the unit to resolve but it didn't lock up and I haven't had any issues until Sunday. Seems like something in the software is screwed up. It is frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a manual way to eject the disk??!!

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. When a Panasonic is giving "no read" and there are
loud "clunking" or "chugging" noises this usually indicates
that the lens is dirty or has failed. Other problems may include a failing or
failed Digital PCB or some problem with the ribbon cables from the DVD Drive to the
Digital PCB (on 2006 models such as the DMR-EZ models there is some problem
with the ribbon cables to the DVD
Drive on-board controller board.
Please check this picture for ribbon cable connections--

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
