Display overlaying pictures on LCD screen

My Nikon D50 is working perfectly except that when you take a photo and try to view it, there is an "informational" display laying over the photo. The pictures are recorded fine, you just can't view them very well due to the info on top (like Camera Nikon D50, Metering Matrix, focal length 34mm) I read the book from front to back and can't find any reference to this. How can I get rid of this? Help, Rozie

I have the same problem as Rozie. If I press 'Enter', the display will clear so that I can see the photo, but as soon as I go to the next picture or even try to view the same picture again, the same thing happens.

Hi, the only thing I can see in the manual is on page 52 (below). You can scroll through the information provided using the up & down arrow keys on the multi-selector button. Scrolling though to the basic file info should give a clearer view. Perhaps if you select this option the next time you view it will default to it? I don't have the camera to try! Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

Nikon d50 monitor does not work during photo shooting, must use view finder

This is completely normal. The monitor is used for setting menu items, displaying shooting info, and reviewing images. Like SLR have functioned for over fifty years, you take pictures by composing and framing through the viewfinder. Only the most recent dSLRs have the Live View capability which allows you to use the monitor like a point&shoot camera.

Nikon D50 Flashes Err and clicks

hi..
This screen shows areas of the photo that are overexposed slightly.
It flashes them to help you.
You get to this screen by pressing the up or down arrows when displaying the pictures you have taken.

To change it just press the up arrow when the camera is showing the screen until you get a display without flashing.

Once you have done this the display will be steady.
If you get any other screen in future you may have accidently pressed the arrow again.
Just cycle thru the displays to get back to steady.

Nikon d50 highlights problem

That's the overexposed highlights display, to warn you when highlight details may be lost. Disable it by pressing the up arrow twice. First press shows you the histogram, second press shows pic only, no other info. It will remember this setting for all photos display (until you change it).

Hi, I have a Nikon d50. My skills are very poor and I haven't used the camera in 4months. My problem is the picture veiwer is not on and i need to look thur the veiw rather than looking at the screen. Help

Digital SLR cameras are different from other point and shoot cameras, in that you have to look through the view finder, you can not use the LCD Display to frame your shot.

Hope this helps

Nikon D50 LCD Display does not work

NatD, The D50 and indeed most SLR digital cameras [ I have a D40 ] does not allow you to take pictures using the LCD display ... this is by design, you are meant to use the viewfinder and the image you see through it is straight through the lens via a mirror block [ called a reflex pentamirror or prism ]. When the mirror is down such that you can see the image in the viewfinder it is obscuring the sensor [ the bit that takes the picture ] and when you take a shot the mirror lifts and the picture is recorded. Its this reason that DSLR's dont use the LCD to shoot, however there are a few now available that do let you do this, such as olympus, new panasonic one and higher end Nikon and Canon cameras. Hope this explains it without getting too detailed!
