Question about GE Advantium 120 Convection/Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Ge single oven

I just recently moved into a house with a new ge oven. Ge tried to repair it 5 times. The control panel doesn't work. It was replaced with another oven which the control panel doesn't work also. Is this a problem with ge or something electrical.

Did the technician measure the power line voltage? Do you have or have you had trouble with any other electrical items in the home? This could indicate a defect in the design or manufacturing, but most manufacturers are reluctant to admit it easily, since the costs of a reall can be pretty steep. You might want to call GE Customer Relations at 1-800-386-1215 (8-6 ET). Feel free to follow up with more details if we can help further. We appreciate your thoughtful ratings to our reply.

GE Profile microwave counter top lights not working after replacing lamps?

There is a fuse in GE models, but if that were blown, the oven would be totally dead.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you prefer, you can buy a new control circuit board and install it. It's a pretty simple job.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number
here.

Have a GE Hood micro model # JVM1540DN1WW. Control panel doesn't work. Did hard reset buy cutting power. Probably bad smart board. Problem is this is the 2nd one I have had . These last only 2...

You have a failed membrane keypad.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

It is part number WB56X10824 and you can order it here for $124.12.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

At our Web site ,we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame. Be careful - the display is made of glass.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

Have a GE model JVM1430 that has error code of F-3

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open.

On these models, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

It is usually called the "Control panel asm" in the parts list (ref # 105 on the exploded view) .

You simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

Control panel for GE microwave

The control panel module is different from the membrane. Unfortunately these modules themselves are usually very expensive, perhaps 1/2 the cost of a new microwave.

Sorry.

The keypad buttons do not work

> model JVM1640WJ03

The keypad is part number WB27X10721 MEMBRANE KEY PANEL available for $37.09 here (it's $61.50 from GE!).

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

First of all, you should check the end of the keypad strip for rough white, gray, or green deposits that can sometime interfere with conductivity.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below and use a soft pencil eraser to gently clean both sides of the end, then reinsert it and try it again.

If that doesn't fix it, and you don't notice any rough white, gray, or green deposits on the circuit board (moisture or mineral deposits) or grease, then your keypad is bad.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

If you would like to have us do this repair for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Fan

Test the motor fan - unplug the oven, wait 5 minutes and discharge the capacitor. remove the oven housing.  First check for any obstructions that may be preventing the fan from rotating.  Turn the blades by hand: if they don't move easily, disconnect the wires from the motor and take out the motor for cleaning and lubrication.  if the fan blades move freely, check for a burning smell and examine the motor windings for discoloration.  If a wire is loose or broken, repair the wire connection.  To test the motor for less visible damage, set a multitester to test resistance.  the motor should have low resistance.  If not, replace it.
