" Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced. Several items can cause a system to run slow, or perhaps lock up. Over time, as more software and files are installed on a computer it may become slow. A fragmented drive can also cause a computer to run slow. I suggest you scandisk and defrag the drive again. Then go to Internet Explorer under Tools and Internet Options to delete temporary internet files and clear the history. If this does not resolve the issue, I would strongly recommend to back up your data and do full system recovery if you are getting error messages. "

Even though you bought the laptop used, you can try going to www.acer.com and leave a message they may be able to give you more advice.
I am thinking it could be the DVD drive or maybe even a memory issue, not really sure, maybe you need to add more memory, I think Acer will be able to help.
Good Luck.

Ok, if you have the restore and driver DVD's then by all means back up your data like pictures and document and do the restore.

Remember you will lose everything on your drive if you choose to do this, but this still may not resolve your issue.

Do this first, How much memory do you have and how much free space is on your hard drive?

I don't like suggesting to reinstall unless that is the only option.

Whenever i play games or watch videos ........my laptop starts lagging ..cpu uses to go 100%

Hi ankitsuman, This problem due to the lack of dedicated memory for graphic card. The only option you can do is in BIOS you can change dedicated memory size to maximum, also you can increase the physical RAM size because part of RAM is using for graphic card.

My laptop automatically shut down

Hi, another reason for this besides corrupted registry mightbe heat. Do youknow that Acer 4530 runs really hot. Some people in this same site reported that their 4530s are touching a near 90 and 100 centigrade. To be sure that heat is the problem, install SiSoft sandra or Notebook Hardware Control software on your laptop, run it in parallel with the game. After ten or fifteen minutes, minimize the game and check the temperature of CPU and HDD. Both of them display in the notification area itself.
Temperatures of >100C for CPU and >70C for HDD make the system crash and restart.

Once you know for sure temperature is the problem, you can take steps to prevent it. For example, give breathing space to the CPU. The CPU and HDD fans are locvated below the laptop. So make sure that air goes freely below the laptop when you work on it. There are so many laptop coolers available in the market.

My 4530 never crossed 90C although I once saw it making 85 degrees centigrade. Install the latest versions of nVidia drivers. That also might have been the cause.

Acer Aspire 5100

To prevent the computer from freezing up, make sure you are running nothing else while you are trying to burn the disk. You can also change the programs that are starting up. Hit start, run, type msconfig, go to startup, uncheck everything, restart the computer. Then try to burn the disk. Also you can run CCleaner to repair some of your registry.

100% of CPU used

I can think of this:

If you are running Linux, do you have a SWAP partition active for Ubuntu? That and RAM, how much do you have?

If you are low on RAM or your SWAP partition is little, your CPUs will be running a lot.

Please check back with us for more information you may have or further questions. Thanks!

Laptop computer lagging horribly

You have something running in the background that is eating up the CPU useage. You need to identify which process is doing this.

Use the built in task manager, using ctrl-alt-delete to bring it up, and see which process is at above 90% cpu usage. Then post back here what you find.
