Question about Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL Flatbed Scanner

"Scanner not found" message

Tried to use the scanner and am unable to do so. Have no idea why the computer cannot find the scanner. Machine starts up fine and seems ready to go. I removed the scanner from the hardware list, uninstalled it and then re-installed it to no avail.

    am on a mc with 10.5 operating system. downloaded the latest driver from microtek and tried connecting via usb and firewire. the scanner is still not recognized by the computer.

I have found a support site for your scanner that may be of some help... Please check your ports are compatible.. as far as speed and type. Have you installed the MOST up to date drivers etc? Check all cables etc. support.microtek.com/product_dtl_2.phtml?prod_id=22

Solution #1 is absolutely spot-on from adnanbhatti, copy the link into your browser to be able to see the photos of the printer and how to slide the print head:

When I slid the print head over as specified, I found a little crumpled paper fragment soaked with ink. Pulled it out.... I turned on the printer, it ran a cleaning cycle automatically, and started printing just fine!

Computer can't "see" scanner even though plugged into USB port


please check:
if other usb-devices work with your pc, so usb ports of your machine are ok.
try connecting the printer to another machine, using same procedure as u did with the old one

did you get any installation cd with it?
any newer drivers for your win-system available?( inet, manufacturers homepage)

if your system and the printer passed the hardware check, install newer drivers and try again.

Your scanner might not work proprietly. Try to take it back to the shop you bought the printer from and report to them your problems.

Unable to select TWAIN source


tried uninstallin and installin canon scanner drivers..nothing works..still seeing unable to select twian source..

so i tried an alternative..here we go..
on vista 64 os/vista any version..click Start>All programs>Windows fax and scan

next click new scan on top and that got me going.

some say there are issues with the way usb talks to old scanners with new operating systems like mine (vista 64). hope it helps until you find the actual cure.

quite possible the scanner motor finnaly gave out but lets look at other things first

try connecting to another usb port on comp before that completly take out all of the scanners drivers and programs this could be a simple file corrupt

i know you tried this but sometimes putting a new driver over old driver doesnt usually change the old drivers properties this is when you completly take out all drivers and software and start from scratch for this scanner

Did you try connecting the scanner to a diffrent computer or tried a different cable to connect it to the computer?? Try this and let me know if there are any further concerns. Good Luck
