Sounds like the lcd cable has been damaged. The cable runs from the lcd panel thru the hinge assy to the main pcb assy. The good news is that it can be fixed but your gonna have to send it in for service, I hope this helps.

LCD Screen

Replace the Ribbon Wire between the Mini DV unit and the lcd screen. Samsung wanted $136 to repair same issue for me. Screen started with colored lines eventually going to white lines and finally screen went completely black and stayed black. I replaced the Ribbon Wire after purchasing a copy of the systems schematics and repair manuel online. With total cost of everything i bought to make this repair I saved a little over $115 from what Samsung wanted for the same repair.

Image won't flip when the lcd panel is fliped to 180 degree i.e when i flip the lcd panel towards the lense to do a self shoot the image, instead of appearing stright appears upside - down

normally there is a micro switch fixed at the awivl head of the lcd panel. when the lcd is rotated to 180 the switch gets engaged thus turns the image upside down. most probably the switch has worn out.

Justin, The orientation switch for the LCD module is located on the horizontal shaft which supports the monitor. The switch can be damaged or break off inside the LCD cabinet and cause this symptom. Also, we have seen the harness rubbing against the metal bracket and tear which causes the signal to be lost which directs the microprocessor to invert the image. I hope this helps you. Vertical lines

This is a defect in the CCD ( light sensor ) - check with Canon and they'll replace it free of charge even if the camcorder is out of warranty.
