Question about D-Link AirPlus DWL-G630 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

Request timed out..?!!

I have recently bought this DWL-G630 adpater card for my IBM Thinkpad T41 running on WinXP. The problem started almost immediately after installing the config tool & plugging in the card - it becomes active & inactive frequently, that is when I ping the router, it shows "request timed out" continuously and then again seems to wake up and starts communicating. I am flummoxed !! this never happens with the inbuilt Intel 802.11a/b card. I bought this one so that I can enjoy a bit of 802.11g speed i.e 54mbps. But now, I almost cannot use it because of this strange phenomenon. Any clues / tricks that can permanently keep this card awakened, will have my full appreciation and Kudos. Thanks Santanu

Hi I think this maybe caused by XP's WiFi service, it needs to be disabled, I have a link for you to follow for a hopeful fix...

I have a dwl g630 wireless ccard 802.11g/2.4ghz and i cant find the software for it. when i put it into the laptop it dosent search the networks.

If you go to and click "Support Resources" you'll find instructions on how to determine which version of DWL-G630 you have got. If you then click on the link for your version you will find a link for "Drivers" and you should find all the appropriate software available for the card.
Hope this helps :-)

Connecting to wireless network

Offhand, I am getting the impression that either way (static or auto), the AP is the one responsible for disconnecting or refusing you. One reason is that you do not have permission to join the network or there is a security key that you need to be able to access.

A couple of clarifying queries pls:
1. Which configuration utility are you using for the G630, D-Links or Windows built-in?
2. Which security method is the "sons dlink 1310 wpa network" using WEP, WPA or MAC filter?
3. Have you tried different hardware configuration/settings for the 630 such as Auto Power Save, Power Management, Authentication Algorithm, Passive Scan Dwell Time, others?
4. Can you access the webbased interface config utility of the 1310 router?

Pls post back and then we can start figuring things out.

Good luck and kind regards.
