Try booting from a CD/DVD and see if it does the same thing. If not, you OS is corrupted and needs to be re-installed.

If you do not have a RECOVERY CD then contact Dell topurchase this Recovery CD for your model Dell laptop. Boot up using theRecovery CD and follow the instructions.
The other way is to re- install Windows using a Windows installation CD; itmust match the Windows version on the Windows Product Code label on the bottomof your laptop. Boot up using the Windows installation CD and follow theinstructions. Next install all of the Dell's computer/laptop devicedrives. Next install the Windows service packs (SP2 & SP3 forXP, SP1 & SP2 for Vista) Next Activate Windows via the Internet or by phone. Next install your programs - Microsoft Office etc. Next click on Start - Programs - Windows Update (for thelatest updates).
The device drivers for your model computer/laptop can be downloaded from theDell WEB support site. To download the drivers from Dell WEB site, select yourmodel desktop or laptop, or a better option, type in the Service Tag number, this is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back orsides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go the BIOSsetting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will bedisplayed). The Service Tag will open the page where the drivers specific foryour model computer/laptop are located. Also make sure you select the WindowsXP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. The disk might not have a working OS on it.

It you have successfully run the disk utility the disk probably in full working order. I think that the OS on the disk is either missing, corrupt or not compatible with the computer you are running it on.

After automatic updates and a restart, diagonstic lights A & C were yellow and D & B green, nothing comes up on screen, this happen before after an update but i got it to start after several a

If all diagnostic lights are on, then that means that it has something with the software of your computer. The update has affected some of the programs inside your computer thus it's booting up fine.

I suggest that you access safe mode and do a system restore from there. If you don't know how to access safe mode, then follow these:

1. Turn off your computer.
2. turn it on and keep tapping F8 until you see the options. You should see safe mode.
3. Use the arrow keys to select safe mode, then press enter.
4. Your computer should boot up to safe mode.
5. Access the system restore. You can find it in accessories, system tools, system restore. or you can search.
6. restore your computer to the known good date where your computer was still working fine.
7. After completing the on screen procedures, let your computer restart by itself (it may take minutes or more). It will restart and it should boot to the normal windows.

Good Luck!

I hope this helps.

I have a dell inspiron mini notebook I tried to restore but something went wrong and now it says BOOTMGR is missing and I tried tapping ,holding f8 and it won't let me it automatic goes back to...

Hi ,maria calder....

1. Uninstall any softwear you may have put on the computer when the problem started.
2. Do a complete System Restore: Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This will bring your system back to a time before you installed the softwear or Microsoft installed drivers, etc.
Note: Just be sure to use a date in a darkened box before your trouble start date.
If after you have done the above and your still getting the blue screen of death, the installed drivers, softwear, etc might have corrupted the Operating System.
If that happened then that means either repair or reinstall the operating system.
You will need to do the following:
1...Repairing the Operating System...
A...You will have to have the Operating Dics that came with the computer
It will have your product key number that came with the computer, you can find it on the tower, or under the bottom of your laptop, or maybe the piece of paper that the CD orginally came in may have the number on it.
You can also download a small program and it will tell you your product key number.
Go to the following webpage to download your FREE key finder.
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/
B...You will now insert the disc into the CD/DVD player
C...Restart the computer
D...When the window opens that tells you to press "Any" key, you will press any key you want to press.
E...If you do not receive a message that says "press any key to boot from CD", then then the computer is not ready to boot from a cd.
To correct this problem you will have to go into your computer's Bios and change the computer to boot from a CD.
To get into the Bios, shut the computer off, restart, while the computer is starting up keep tapping F1 as the computer is starting up.
When you are in the Bios, select to boot by CD by moving the cursor with the direction arrows on the keyboard.
Once you have selected to boot by cd the exit and restart the computer...the disc is already in the cd/dvd player.
Your system will boot then from the cd.
F...After a minute or less it should ask you if you want to Quit Repair, or Continue.
You will select repair this time, but you may have to come back here and select Install if the repair does not work.
It will ask you to ok the agreement document, ok it.
Tap F8 on your keyboard to pass it.
It will ask you if you want to Install, Repair, Delete Partition, or Quit.
Select Repair
Inside the box there will be one or two partitions.
Choose the largest partition.
After you have chosen the largest partition, you will then press the "r" key to start the repair
After the repair is complete you will need to restart your computer
G...Computer Restart
After the repair is complete, shut the computer down (the computer will shut down a few times during the installation of the operating system
that is normal).
Then restart your computer, when the computer restarts it will have a box to put your product key...put the product key in the box.
Answer any questions.
The computer should start up as if it was a new computer.
You do not need to re-register
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this fails to clear your blue screen of death then you have hardware problem.
It could be faulty ram
If you still get the BS (Blue Screen), then you have two choices.
1.Reinstall the entire Operating System.
2..Take your machine in to have the hardware tested.
Keep in mind If you do a complete reinstall the OS you will lose all the information on the computer, such as pictures, programs, videos, everything you installed will be gone.

Help my hp dv2000 just keeps restarting??

Hi,

As the computer is working in safe mode, it is clear that operating system files are corrupt.

Perform a repair installation, if it is Windows XP.

For Vista or Windows 7, you can perform system restore from recovery console. To launch recovery console, insert the disc- restart the computer and boot into the disc. Choose repair in the options tab, then choose system restore from the list.

Computer is not starting up in standard windows mode. dell media keeps popping up and when i exit the program my pc shuts down. i tried ctrl and f8 it brings me to a short menu. (1) continue restart...

Are you running Window XP? Is your computer set to hibernate? If so, you may have a hibernation error...

If I understand correctly, while pressing F8 during bootup you received a message that states:
"System restart has been paused:
Continue with system restart.
Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu"

You may wish to read this article about the error. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294427

Then, go ahead and do that second option. What hibernate does is write a big file to the HD with the exact state of Windows. That is a "restoration" file. If hibernate doesn't work, deleting the restoration file will often allow the computer to restart normally.

Good luck! Please post back with your results.
