I have a question regarding ‘Error 03’ messages, which I’ve been seeing occasionally on my Tascam DA-30mkII DAT machine. I believe it happens with certain tapes rather than random tapes. I am aware that this code means ‘broken tape’ or something to that effect (even though I know the tapes are not 'broken'). Usually when the drawer closes after loading a tape, I hear the normal ‘mechanical sounds’ that I normally associate with the tape being engaged to the heads etc.. However, when I happen to load a tape with an ‘Error 03’, I do not hear any of these sounds – the drawer closes and then…nothing (just ‘Error 03’ appears). I often find that after opening and then closing the drawer, the tape loads normally with the familiar sounds and plays perfectly. I have never yet seen any ‘Error 01’ messages or other stuff that I see other people have had problems with. Basically I was just wondering whether this is anything I should be worrying about with regard to my machine, or this is really more of a tape issue rather than a machine issue? Just looking for some peace of mind regarding my DAT deck which has otherwise performed very well in every other respect.
The unit will need to have the cover pulled off and the tape drive mechanism unfastened , turned over and,the VERY small belt needs to be replaced SBO1.55 belt from www.studiosoundelectronics.com

I have a Tascam da-30 mkII and I just put a tape in. Then made the normal noise and then gave Error 1 and the tape was cut in half. What's next?
