Fan making loud noise like it needs oiled

Last night the a/c started making a loud noise. Sounds like when a fan needs cleaned and/or oiled. Filter has been cleaned and everything else works fine. We turned it off until we know what the problem is and how to fix it but the temp outside today is 102. HELP!

Re: Fan making loud noise like it needs oiled

Most of the fan motors can be oiled. You will have the slide the ac forward and remove it from the case to access it. You will find yellow pull pins on each end of the motor, a lite drop or two is all that is needed.

How can I find the model number for the fan. I have a 1999 avion with a coleman mach air the fan makes a lot of noise.we oil it but it quit last night and I think it may need replacing.

The model number of you upper unit which can be seen from inside on bottom of unit behind filter etc at ceiling, will give enough info for replacement fan. Here's a good spot to find part #'s etc for your unit.

I have a continental elec port. air. Not sure of model. Cools great but when compressor kicks on unit make a loud whistling noise. Cleaned filter no help.

although annoying, at this time i would not mess with it, the fan motor needs oiling (zoom spout oiler ) works the best .. you can find how in my other postings.. try running the unit on a lower fan speed... some cool is better than NONE

When turn on blows cold air but makes loud whining noise like rubbing on something. almost a whine sound

sounds like your bearings are out on your fan motor. Some of the older fan motors have places where you can oil the bearings but most newer ones do not. Unless you have a place to oil the bearings and they are not already too far gone you best bet will be to replace the motor. Once the bearings start howling in the way you described it is time to start looking for a replacement. It is also possible (although unlikely) that the noise you hear is (a) the fan blade hitting part of the frame. (b) the bearings in the compressor.

The fan is always on and its noisy at night

The fan of the AC unit is always ON unless there is a power saving option on the model you are having and which is not specified by you. You might be noticing the higher noise level in the night as a possible higher voltage in the night power supply or the external surrounding noise being silent.
Open the panel and check if the fan bearings are dry, oil them , if there is enough dirt have a good cleaning with air or remove and spray with jet wash. make sure that the fan motor is not loose or the blades are touching any parts. reset after a close check with the fan manually rotated.
Set the temperature to normal and the fan speed to the lowest. Choose energy saver -power option where the fan will cut off totally... only if present in this model.

Tempstar a/c condenser screeching noise

Could be the fan motor's bearings. Try turning the fan by hand to see if spins freely or is tight. If it's tight you can try oiling it but that may not work for long.

My central air pooched last night.... I am hot and miserable... LOL but anyways... the outside unit makes a noise when I turn it on but the FAN does not spin at all.... any idea what it might be?

depending where the noise is coming from. If you can be next to the unit as it starts see if the noise is coming from the fan or control panel (where the electric is going into) and how loud is it. I would venture to say that it is probably the fan motor, you will hear it if you are there.

AC make loud noise on power off.

Is this a wndow unit or central air system? if this is a window unit , your problem is it only needs cleanning (dirt dbber nest-- trash around the back blades-- or the unt is twisted and rubbing the fan shroud. Last but not least, the slinger ring around the back blades (a ring around the end of the blades thats picks up water in the bottom of the unit and sling it on the coils to help cool the hot gases....Thank-you Thank you Thank you very much!

Haier ESA 3185 AC won't cool; makes escalating loud vibrating noise near front panel/ filter

Have someone check the run capacitor of this unit. If the run capacitor is bad over shorted it can cause the unit to run and short cycle on a current overdraw. This makes for an electrical imbalance in the compressor motor. Next step is the compressor is faulty.
