5 of my 8 md 421's have developed a fluttering sound on impact of any tom! Yet they sound normal on a human voice? This sound is not like any distortion I'm used to hearing. These mics were purchased in...

Sounds like the membrane hooks on to something at high SPL's. And perhaps especially at low/low-mid frequencies. You most probably need them taken apart and have them examined.
That 5 of 8 has gone bad makes me believe it related to something that weaken with time. Say, foam going dry, tape losing its grip, rubber going stiff.
Could be an easy mechanical fix, but yes, one would have to take them apart and examine them closely.
I would ask for a service quote directly from sennheiser. They are lovely mics, and may well be worth the effort.

Have a beta 57a it wont work ? nothing

I'm assuming that you have tried the obvious stuff like using a different cable and a different amplifier?
The Shure beta 57a is a very robust and reliable dynamic microphone and there is very little to go wrong with it apart from
  1. A wire broken off inside
  2. A broken capsule - can be caused by dropping it
You can inspect for broken wires by very gently unscrewing the microphone head and peering inside - however the wiring is quite short so be careful not to pull any wires off in the process.
A broken capsule can be replaced - contact your local dealer for parts.

Shure SM58 not working. Tried on various pieces of equipment using various configurations of cables and not a sound. Took unit apart and all wiring appears to be intact. The mic has been unused for several...

The SM58 is a dynamic mic. It's actually a very simple device. Thus, it doesn't "degrade". If an SM58 fails, it usually fails catastrophically. Now, the problem for is that you don't know if the failure is in the handle (which includes a transformer) or the cartridge).

You can order a replacement cartridge from Shure and solder it in place, but might be better for you to just send the mic to Shure. I believe they will just replace the mic with a new one for their service fee.

Dr-vx1 microphone was dropped now it does not sound like its suppose to how do I fix it?

Open the unit and look for damage. If nothing is obviously wrong, the element probably has fatal damage.

AKG Perception 200 Mic stopped working. I use it

The simple thing to check would be to see if your 48V phantom power switch on your mixer is turned on. Sometimes there is an individual button to turn it on and off for each channel strip. Good Luck

Beta 58 just stoped working

Have you tried using a different cable? Hopefully thats it.But more than likely due to it's age it could be the capsule. That would require replacement by a Shure factory repair shop.Go to Shure's website and check their repair fees.

I have no sound from my E6

Check the headset closely around the mic capsule and ear attachment for placing the mic on your ear. This is prone to problems from bending the mic to fit different people. You may find a break in the metal under clear rubber material. Also the cable itself could have a problem. Countryman sells the cable and it unplugs rather easily. There is a junction in the cable that is actually a plug. You can pull it apart there. Be careful as the mic is very expensive. Also countryman provides excellent technical support. Good luck.

Dead md421

Ignore GazllFixIt...

If it's dead, a connection is already broken inside.

Much more unlikely is that the capsule is at fault - and if it is you can't make things any worse anyway.

Who cares if you break a connection when you take it apart - as long as you can use a soldering iron, it's easy enough to fix. If you can't, why would you be taking apart in the first place ;)

You'd be mad to send it to Sennheiser to solder 1 or 2 points then send it back to you! Waste of time and money.

Try learning something yourself, especially if it only cost $10 and doesn't work to begin with.

Remove the capsule assembly - desolder and disconnect the wires at the base of the mic (not from the capsule) yourself (see, opposite of last advice), then connect them directly to a cable with an XLR on the other end. Forget about ground for now.

Now plug it you hear anything? If not, get a multimeter and check continuity between capsule and your XLR. If you have continuity, throw the mic out. If not, replace those wires. Still nothing - chuck it out.

If you are hearing something (it should sound absolutely fine, clear, loud etc), ...find the broken connection elsewhere...but also, be happy because it definately still works and is definately fixable and you can do it yourself.
