My Sharp XL-MP60 Micro-Component Stereo System died a few days ago. It's plugged in, but is completely dead - no lights, no noises, nothing at all.
I checked to make sure the power cord is secure at both ends, and that the outlet has power. I tried the reset procedure on page 30 of the manual. I disassembled the unit and checked the three fuses, and made sure the transformer was putting out voltage on the two output connectors.
The unit has four printed circuit boards: radio, control panel, CD transport unit, and main power & audio amplifier. My guess is that either the control panel board or the main power board is dead, but the local Sharp-authorized service center wants $50 just to look at it.
I'm thinking about trying to buy the boards from Sharp, and maybe buy a Sams Photofacts guide to help troubleshoot it. But it would be easier to just replace the whole thing.

- All the boards are connected by mini-ribbon cable. I decided not to pull out the o-scope, and instead took it to the Sharp authorized repair shop. They estimate I'll have it back in 10-14 days.

- I just got my Sharp XL-MP60 back from DTR Technologies, LLC (formerly Downtown Radio of Denver) and it turns out that it was a 1D10T error - a fuse that I thought I had checked turned out to be bad. And they only wanted to charge me $146 for the fix! Thankfully I talked them down to $96, but I'd never recommend them - they lied to me up front about their rates.
Hey there John
Have you checked the power to the individual boards themselves? I am not familiar with this system but the input power is probably marked on the boards. You will need a multimeter but you said you have checked the voltages on the trans so i assume you have one? What are those voltages by the way?
As for whether or to just replace the unit is your choice...i would suggest sticking it out, victory is so sweet.
hope this helps.

I have a Sharp XL-MP60. It powers up, shows a change in radio stations, shows a change in CD's from one to 5, but I can get NO sound. Before, when I would turn it on, it would be a few seconds and I'd hear a click and the sound would come on. Now, there is no sound and no click. I have tried headphones and other speakers on the system as well and there is still no sound. I have tried the reset procedure on page 30 of the manual but there is still no sound.....I'm stumped. Reading others postings, is there some sort of fuse that has gone? Could it be that simple? Thanks

The display shows what seems to look like all zeros with lines inside them. It does not display numbers. Tried setting the clock, same thing. Tried to play demo mode, ditto. Could this be an internal fuse or the led display had gone bad. The unit plays cds and radio stations, just doesn't show the info on display
