I had this problem. Thought about buying a new camera. Did buy a new battery. Solved problem before new battery arrived.

I might be lucky because my PC has a card reader interface built in... After days of trying the online solutions, I took out the memory card and downloaded it to my pc 9and deleted the images from the card). Imagine my surprise when I put the card back into the L80, turned it on, and it worked again!!

It is possible that batteries are dead. You could give it a try with another batteries, or test your recharged batteries in another unit.

My Vivitar Vivicam 5388 lens will not move or shutter operate

Hi cda_graham
Usually it is a flat battery which causes this problem. You have to put in new battery once again and try.

Good luck

What is the function of the switch P/N by the transmission stick

It is the Power -vs- Normal switch. In Power (P) mode, the shift points on your transmission are extended so you can accelerate quicker. The Normal (N) mode is for typical driving and will increase your gas mileage.

Cannon G7 need help

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

Lens cover jamming

Try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.

You can open it up, but only as a very last resort. The above procedures usually work if you try them enough. But for those particularly nasty stuck mechanisms, here's an example repair on a Canon Powershot A400 (do this at your own risk, and it will void your warranty):
