When picture mode set to "standard" grenn pixels in all dark areas of screen. When set to dymanic, all dark areas either solid or pixelated green. when set to movie, you can watch but still see green pixels outlining text or images of people on screen. What is the part that typically goes bad when this happens?

Sounds like a defective set. I have the same TV and don't have this problem. It's a long shot, but one thing you could try is turning on "Game Mode" which is designed for fast moving action.
