SOURCE: disk error

Hello anuhera, This is a very common problem with the cd400 camera, I have learned the hard way that Sony's recommendation to use their [expensive] media was more than just self interest. There are a lot of quality issues with CD media. As my camera has aged it is more and more intolerant of off-brand media. This is true even though I have not shot more than a 1000 images with the camera. While I can plan on getting the c:13:01 error with unbranded disks, I can still use the Sony disks without much if any problem. To get your pictures back, go to and download their recovery software, worked great for me. Let me know if you need any additional info. Best regards, nightdiver

Try to use a can of air and blow out the inside where the disk goes. The sensor may be dirty.

SOURCE: sony mavica CD 500 disk error

Hi Pamela

Sorry for unfortunate incident. I had similar issue before and I have found some solutions have worked.

1.Clean the lens of the built in CD writer of the camera and try again. Also wipe the surface of the CD gently with a piece of smooth clean cloth.

2.If solution 1 doesnt work, try installing the Adaptec DirectCD utility which comes with installation CD of the camera. After installation you can access the unfinalized content of the CD, and you can finalize on computer.

If issue still persist please post so we can seek further solution
Good Luck

I think your cams card got attacked by virus, so you need to remove it from your cam and connect it to PC through a card reader and scan for viruses
and copy the pictures from it to your pc, if required you can format it once either in pc or in your cam

Go to the menu (s) and reset all to default.
Make sure that any protect lever is not on protect position.
Try the camera again.

How to shut off disk protect

The write protection is on the floppy diskette itself. Make sure the little sliding latch is covering the hole on the right side of the diskette. If you see through two holes on the diskette it is on write protect.

It comes that Disk not being recognized. I had the same camera before. You need to use good quality CDRs or CD-RWs. Usually Sony Mavica disks best with that camera. Maybe you cannot find Mavica in market then go for Sony, Philips, Imation miniCDR/W. also keep the lens of the internal CD writer clean. If you need further assistance please post your question

Good Luck

Not good, you will need a replacement floppy drive for the camera. It is a common failure point on the Mavica series. Sorry, no easy fix

NO! Connect the USB cable and transfer your images. That way you can fill your disk before finalizing. BTW: Does not this camera have an "Unfinalize" option?

The first thing to check is the floppy disk itself is not protected, what this means is on the left/right corner of the floppy disk is a little tab that can be moved up or down. Check to make sure the disk is not locked (usually symbolized by a lock symbol on the disk). If that does not work, you might have a bad floppy drive
