Your phone is set to read text. To stop this feature, you do the following;
From the settings menu, scroll down to accessibility, you will see a hand icon. tap on it and un-check the Text-to-speech output.
You might have installed an application called Speak Caller Name on your phone that is reading your text too. Check that and switch it off or configure it to stop reading out loud.
Assuming you have an HP laserjet, you can either try again in a little bit or disable v.34 on your machine and use v.17 instead

To change the lock code of your phone
Your phone's lock code is used to lock and unlock your phone.
The default lock code is 1234.
Use Menu 4-3-2-3 (Settings- Security settings-Access Codes - Change lock code) to change the lock code.
When the phone requires the lock code, it displays "Enter lock code:".
Enter the code, then press OK.
If you enter a wrong lock code five times in succession, your phone prompts you for the security code. Saving the unlocked phone number
Use Menu 4-3-2-2 (Settings - Security - Settings - Unlocked phone number)to save a number that may be called even when your phone is locked. You will be required to enter the lock code.
Calling the unlocked phone number.
Press the Up or Down arrow keys or or manually enter the number exactly as it is saved, then press Call.
Note: The More key will pause the automatic scrolling of the help text. Pressing the More key or the Up or Down arrow keys will toggle through the pages. The More key is only displayed when the help text is displayed.
After you read a message, always hit the return/back key to get you back to the main list of messages. This phone automatically returns you to wherever you left off last, so if you don't hit the return key, your last message read will be what is displayed when you hit your message key.
No, your phone is not defective, you need to change your settings.
In your menu, go to SETTINGS, then PROFILES. Scroll to the profile you are using then select EDIT. Under each profile you have the option to select how your phone handles any alert you receive (i.e. for calls, messages, texts, etc.) You have several options some of which are silent, silent and vibrate, vibrate only.
Personally I want my phone to vibrate when it's on silent so that I know I'm receiving a call or text. You can choose another option though.
I would definitely reset the phone, unless you can find a way to clear the text messages out before it crashes to the Main Menu. My guess is that you have a corrupted text message in your inbox, and it is crashing the software.
Resetting the phone will wipe out all of the data on it, so make sure you back it up first. If you have the Motorola Phone Tools, you may also want to try accessing the text messages or updating the phone software through it first.
The call listing only shows one caller by design, to help with clutter on the list. It's a little funky, but if you think about scrolling through pages of the same caller just to find that number to the pizza place again, it makes sense.
If you open Messaging, you can access the settings in the menu there to increase (or set to never delete) text message life.
