Question about Southwestern Bell FA-970 Digital Answering Machine

Erasing messages I can not find a way to erase messages on the SWBell Freedom Phone FA970 that I inherited. Please tell me how to get rid of old messages so that I do not have to continue to replay all of the old messages to hear what is current.

Re: Erasing messages

Play through your messages with out saving any of them. The machine will record new messages over your old ones. This model does not erase messages in the way most answering machines do. Pressing buttons incessantly as previously suggested will only succeed in raising your blood pressure.

If you do save a message, once you play it again with out saving it, your machine will record over it.

The toll free help line on the owner's manual is 1-800-366-0937.

Re: Erasing messages

Hi. I think you have to wait until more calls come in. If you did not save original message(s), then these will then go away FOREVER.

Erased messages - digital recovery?

Sorry, the digital memory can't be restored ones the power is cut or the messages are erased. Some high tech lab somewhere FBI/CIA maybe just maybe could do it but no noting we can do about it.

you can try a old trick of holding down the play button for 10 or more seconds.

I'm really sorry.

I need to know how to retrieve my messages when not home. I have the Southwestern Bell Freedom Answering Machine Model No. FA 972. Thank you.

Call your phone, let the outgoing message play when the machine answers, and wait for the beep. After the beep, enter the 3-digit security code you'll find on a sticker on the bottom of the machine. The machine will beep twice to let you know you entered the right code and it's ready for your commands.

Remote commands:

1# Plays messages in mailbox 1
2# Plays messages in mailbox 2
3# Deletes old messages (you need to play them all back first)
7# Starts recording a new outgoing message (press 7# again to stop recording)
9# Turn the system on or off
0# Monitor the room

While you're playing messages (you pressed either 1# or 2#) you have these commands:

3# Erase current message
6# Repeat previous message
7# Skip to next message
8# Repeat current message
## Stop playback

After your messages have played, you have 20 seconds to enter another command before the machine disconnects automatically.

You can download the manual here so you'll have a copy for future reference.

My answering machine is cutting off callers after 10-12 seconds

dude??? for real??? you still have an ansering machine??? well, thats ok i guess. is it digital or analog??? if analog try changing tapes, or maybe erasing old messages. if its digital then i would chunk it and get call notes or get a caller id box an dscreen your calls. better yey just get rid of your home phone service and get all your calls on a cell phone...... much cheaper and more convienient.!!

Erasing recorded calls from remote location.

It takes a lot of patience; however pursue an AT&T telephone number that is manned by a live person; then follow a trail of phone numbers until one of them connects with a helpfull live person who is familiar with the problem and who then furnishes a very simple solution.
