Question: What are the extra wires used for on the power cable for my fishfinder?
I found this on the carmin website under questions and answers. I think your cable is ok to use according to this. -->
Not all of the wires in the harness are required for use. To connect the unit to the power source, only the black & red wires are required (black to ground, red to positive). Here are descriptions of the other wires in the harness:
The Blue wire is used for a NMEA data out connection to another NMEA compatible device. The fish finder outputs NMEA 0183 version 3.01. The receiving device must be compatible with this format and looking for the NEMA sentences DPT, DBT, MTM, or VHW.
The Brown wire is used for a NMEA data in connection to receive data from another NMEA compatible device.
The Yellow wire is used to connect to an external buzzer or alarm to alert you to any alarms which have been set to sound on the device. The Yellow GARMIN wire connects to the negative end of the external alarm. The positive return on the alarm will connect to the red positive wire of GARMIN.
The green, white, and any other colors present have no connection purpose related to your fishfinder. The 18 Pin connector wiring harness is used by several other devices which utilize these wires.
If the device is only being connected to power & do not require a NMEA interface, PC connection, or external alarm support, only the red & black wires are required.
Examine the backside of the speaker you want to play Pandora through.
You'll need to have a speaker that features a 3.5 mm audio jack. If your
speaker doesn't feature an integrated audio cable, look for a single
audio jack that looks identical to your EVO's. you may need an AUX cable .
When the Garmin shows the picture of a computer, it means that the Nuvi is in mass storage mode. This mode is used to load software and map updates to the Nuvi and will usually go into this mode when connected to a computer or improper USB cable. If this is occurring when it is connected to the vehicle power cable, chances are that the vehicle power cable is the wrong one. Connect it with the USB cable to a PC / Mac - does it communicate with Mygarmin.com? If so look for a software update and load it. Make absolutely sure it's connected to external power - so the battery won't die when updating. Then wait for it to restart.
If no connection then hold the power button for more than 20 seconds - this triggers the auto reset.
If that doesn't help - let it sit like this till the battery has been drained. Then try to restart while charging it.
If still the same - let it drain again and while pressing the On button, hold the lower right corner of the screen for at least 20 seconds. This will trigger a master reset - reverting back to factory mode. It will erase all user data.
Hi brily, yes you need to conned another optical cables with your HDMI cables since in this model the HDMI is "switching" and the HDMI doesn't cary the sound ... I just bout home theater with this recievr model and I had to buy the extra optical cables to get the sound .

Try the dc plug too (also make sure the battery connections are good in the caste). IF still no power up, the internal battery may be shorted. Lots of info online for replacing the internal battery. Good Luck!
