KDF-60XBR950 Start up failure - Blinking Red Lights

About a 3.5 yr old set - $5000 new -- must press the door of the "2100U" when starting the set in order to get a picture -- get the Lightengine to go. Started with blinking light, swapped the "2100U", still blinking red on startup -- then pressed the door of the 2100U cavity and it came up normally. Tightened the plastic screw on the door securing the 2100U light and it started up for awhile in a normal manner. Now - about 6 weeks later - I have to put some pressure on the door near the screw to get it to come up. If it's a fuse -- is the replacement cost $900? How did that one guy with a similar prob get a brand new XBR for the cost of the repairs - where was that?

Re: KDF-60XBR950 Start up failure - Blinking Red Lights

Anytime you put pressure on something to get it to work is not a fuse but a bad connection. in this case sounds like the door triggers a switch....maybe you can just bypass the switch. or you need a new door housing assembly. good luck

3 blinks is a lamp cover error, did you make sure that the lamp cover is screwed in tight? Also check the lamp cover for deformity, there is a problem with your model where the set over heats and melts the lamp cover a little causing it not to make connection with the lamp cover switch. Let me know if you find either of these problems? If not we can troubleshoot a little further.

I had 3 red blinks in my KDF-60XBR950 Sony Wega. How do I jumper the door switch? What do I need to put to hold the switch?

The door switch is for safety. Is the door deformed (PN: X-4042-246-4), which is causing the error? Twisting the 2 wires together (after stripping) is a quick way to by pass the switch. If that fixes the problem, you should replace the switch (PN: 1-570-245-11). I hope this was helpful, best wishes.

Need a new lamp but screen is becoming filled with blue dots. Tv is 3 yrs old; ave - use. Told it will be useless in 1 yr. Sony projected many yrs of use for this expensive tv. Are they still making this...

No they are not, in fact that type of tv is being phased out. Basically this technology was more bang for your buck ( bigger screens for cheaper), unfortunately they work off of either halogen or led light bulbs which halogens dont last very long. Maybe 5000-7000 hours of use. New bulbs cost around $250, but need special care replacing it in the tv, alignment is crucial to tv clarity.

TV won't turn on.

I know exactly what the problem is. The protection door for the light is probably damaged by the heat of the lamp. The door has a little tab that indicates the cover is on. I had to fix mine by putting a screw; elongated the tab. Since then no problem... (I had the issue at least 3 or 4 times a day and I kept on re-tightening the door/cover)

Hope that helps

Dead KDf 60xbr950; 6 blinking red lights. I spent hours on research & would like 2nd opinions, please.

Not the board, there is a thermal fuse under the lamp housing that has opened up, you need to order an upgrade thermal fuse link that will mount to the Lightengine side of the lamp housing, the clips are there, there is no sensor there.
