Question about Intel D850MV Motherboard

Intel D850MV motherboard

I have Intel D850MV motherboard with two 256 MB and two 128 MB RDRAMs, AGP video card with 128 MB on-board RAM, Samsung 40 GB HDD (ATA) and DVD R/RW drive. Upon plugging the computer to the power source it powers up before the power button is pressed. The power LED, HDD indicator LED and two LEDs on the motherboard light up. The cooling fans on the processor and inside SMPS start rotating. But there is no activity and no display on the monitor. There are no beeps. The power switch and the reset switch do not function. However if power switch is kept pressed the computer shuts down. The CPU and video card heat sink and hard disk become warm. The DVD LED lights up initially and drive door can be opened and closed. What could be the problem? I am located reasonably far from authorized service outlets. Any advice useful for my local service person will be most welcome.

Re: Intel D850MV motherboard

Hi another test is to first disconect extras such printer etc, then remove all your Ram chips, replace these one at a time in slot one, test your boot up, if no luck remove that stick and try the next one and so on. This way you eliminate a faulty RAM stick. it also would not hurt to have a close look at the capacitors on your board. they are the round tube like things sticking up everywhere, if any are bulging or have evidence of leakage at the bottom then discard your board and start anew.

Re: Intel D850MV motherboard

If you hear no beeps and the led lights, and the fans stay on after striping all the components from the motherboard except for the cpu, and power supply, you have either fried your motherboard or your cpu. Its impossible to tell without more testing. I'm sorry but you either need someone to test it or you can buy a new computer (thats what I did). For about USD $300-$400 you can get a brand new computer with 500mbs of ram, 120gb hard drive and a 3 ghz cpu. If you look around you can get an even better deal.

Increase graphics from 96 to 128

If you have insralled the correct video driver and you cannot increase the VIDEO RAM then it is not possible to increase the bit color from 96 bit to 126 or 256 bit color.
The only way to have a higher bit color is to install a new graphics card that supports up to 256 bit color (this video card will have large cideo RAM).

Look in the BIOS, under the video ram settings. What is the largest RAM it can handle? 128? 256? 512? This will give you an indication as the size of video RAM that you can have on your card.

Hope this helps.

Black screen even the power is ok!!

Your Intel D850MV motherboard uses an AGP video card. There is no onboard video (built into the motherboard). Before replacing the video card try swapping out your monitor with another. Check for display. When the system is powered on can you hear the internals running? If the swapped out monitor does not show display you'll have to replace the AGP video card. The Intel D850MV motherboard only supports AGP cards that run at 1.5volts only & can run at 2x or 4x speed. Intel shows the difference between compatible 1.5v AGP card connector & the 3.3v non compatible video card connector. Click on the Intel link to see this; This next link shows a compatible AGP video card that will replace your old card; Thanks for using fixya

RAM cuantity

The motherboard you mentioned supports DDR1 RAM.

For windows xp and general application 512 MB is enough.
But if you use memory intensive applications like image/video editing then you can opt for 1-2 GB RAM.
