Western Digital 1TB My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 Portable External, WDBACX0010BBKSN USB 2.0 Hard Drive not recognised

Hi there. Here are some solutions you could try 1. Try connecting it with a different USB cable as the present one may be faulty. 2. If you can open the casing, do so to confirm if there is a loose connection. 3. You can try this great application tool from Seagate called Sea Tool. You will need to download and install on your computer. This tool examines you hard drive and lets you know if it is totally damaged. You can download it here. SEATOOL

My XP machine does not show the Western Digital 80GB hard drive that I have connected to it. In fact it does not show ANY external drive. The WD800U017 is perfectly fine. The machine reports that...

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter.Then restart computer then check.

Why wont my Western Digital WD Passport 250GB Portable Drive 250 GB Hard Drive work?

Several possibilities:

* bad USB port in your computer (try another USB port)
* messed-up copy of Windows (try connecting to a different computer)
* damaged USB cable between computer and the Passport (replace it)
* bad disk-drive inside the enclosure (replace it)
* bad USB-to-disk-drive adapter (buy a new "empty" enclosure)

Check the warranty on it, to see if W.D. will replace it, at minimal cost to you. If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- buy a new Passport through their web-site, and you qualify for a discount on your purchase.

You can try installing the Western digital smart ware via the CD provided with the drives or the Western Digital site. In many cases, this will allow older computers to recognize the drive;

WD Passport Portable Hard drive 250GB

It could be that your computers do not put out enough power in the USB ports. (Apple laptops are notorious for this). You can call up Western Digital and tell them that it is not working and they will send you a free dual USB cable. This cable has one plug for usb power and one for data so the drive should work with it (although it will use up 2 of your USB ports!!).
