Okay, what happened is I was vacuuming one day and something must have been sucked into the vacuum that did not belong. I proceeded to turn it off and remove the obstruction. I found nothing out of the ordinary so I reassembled it and turned it back on. This time I smelled something burning so I turned it off again quickly and opened it back up to see what the problem was. I still saw nothing out of the ordinary.
Now the brushroller will not work at all. The vacuum still has sucking power. In fact everything else works but the roller. I have taken it out and cleaned it thoroughly and I checked the belt which still seems to be in perfect condition. The motor for the brushroller seems to be the problem. I have no clue on how to go about fixing it. When I put the vacuum in Carpet mode it seems that the motor for the roller just ignores it. And for whatever reason I can't find a website that can tell me about how much another motor would cost.
If I can avoid spending any extra money that would be fantastic. I am just stuck in this situation and if anyone can offer any advice at all I would greatly appreciate it.
-   I have a basically brand new vacuum with the same problem. I sucked up the corner of a throw rug and then the roller stopped working. I opened the roller brush cover and just like you the belt is perfect. There is a switch that shuts off the roller motor when the handle is locked vertically and a small breaker right next to it that the manual refers to as the "reset switch".
With a meter I was able to determine the handle switch is functioning, but the breaker/reset is not conducting current. I believe in my case replacing that breaker will fix my problem. If you have a meter or a continuity tester, simply disconnect each of the wires (they slip on and off) and test continuity in the switch and the breaker. If one of those shows open when it should be conducting electricity, that's probably the problem.
I came across your problem trying to find a replacement part for my vacuum. Though it's still under warranty and I can probably still exchange it at the retailer (it's 9 days old) I thought it more environmentally friendly to repair it. I'm going to call around town and see if I can find a replacement for the repair, otherwise I'll be lugging it back to W*****t.
