use another computer and download "ophcrack" and create disc ..you can also put it on a USB drive and boot from it. Follow the instructions. It will give you the password and or reset it

You need the recovery disk. Most computer companies are more than happy to send you the disk without any cost. Call +1-888-634-4288 to figure it all out.

Couple of things,

First, disable XP's visual effect. Right click on My Computer and click on property, click on Advance Tab, Click on Setting under Performance, Check the box adject for best performance and click on OK.. it should speed up your computer a bit

Also, check your RAM and upgrade it if its is less than 1 GB.

check your screen resolution.
then download codec for your flash player. to have some video

you would need to install a pcmcia wireless card.

where are you what country,? (matters for language and keyboards)
wow, compaq relic day' from the PENTIUM 2 days,a relic !
no exact PC stated, the full model number. just a series
no OS stated, XP? what?
possible wrong can be 3 things,

1. bad keyboard.
2. (or wrong kbd for you country)
3. or unstated windows set to wrong country;

first off the 7400 has many sub models stated on your service tag

there is even a code for the many keyboards used world wide.
page 4 states
Euro symbol provided on Europe/Middle East/Africa keyboards
this old pc even has 1 USB jack on the rear
try a USB KEYBOARD there yet> see if it works ok?
that be first thing Id have done, to see if its hardware or software issue.

don't forget the colon after D

if this does not work, then try typing:

E:/SETUP
