Google chrome uninstall w/ Vista, ano...

I previously listed a similar issue with my PC and I received a suggestion here to perform a system restore and it worked...that was with Win XP. I did the uninstall on my wifes laptop. Chrome is uninstalled, however when trying to use the desktop shortcuts I get messages about 'missing applications' etc. Vista is different than XP and the system restore is a bit more complicated with several files listed. I don't want to get in there changing stuff blind. I've also tried deleting the shortcuts, going to the website and installing a new shortcut but get the same messages. You guys are the experts and I trust your knowledge..help before my wife finds out I smurfed up her confuser. :(
