I had this same problem and I was able to fix it myself for free. This problem seems to be common for people who carry their phone in their pocket instead of the holster. What happens is debris gets stuck around the edges of the screen and then the screen stops responding to the touch. All I had to do is slide my fingernail along the edges of the screen (almost like you are going to peel the screen off) to get the debris out from under the edges of the screen. It also works to use compressed air to blow out the debris.
OMG! It worked!!! Too bad I had already done the factory reset! (I didn't lose much though)
Ditto! Lol it worked, though, thank goodness! Thank you thank you thank you!! I love the internet! <3
THIS IS THE BEST RESPONSE EVER!!!! I was skeptical while reading this (i have been struggling with this problem for almost 3months!) the screen would stop working, i would relalign and then it would work again until 2 weeks ago when the screen stopped responding completely- yes the key board works BUT there's no way to hit send after typing a text!!)...so all my new year texts/sms went unreplied- i went to the HTC site- which by the way is utterly unhelpful- and then i just googled htc touch pro screen not responding and i saw this. i tried it and at first nothing happened- then i removed the plastic screen protector i had on and literally dug my non-existent fingernails (just like he said as if i wanted to peel the screen off)- AND IT WORKED!!!. God BLESS you Nic2010 for taking out time to post this, you dont know how many people are wishing you well right now. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You sir are a genius
Worked like a charm! I didn't think it would work either, but I dug my fingernails around the edge of the screen like i was trying to peel it off, and after a few tries it worked like a charm. Screen went from not working at all, to as good as new. Thanks for your help!
Wow! Incredible! I dug my nail around it to no avail. I ended up using an x-acto knife to dig it out (no more warrenty/insurance, etc..) and it started to work! I had to get pretty aggressive, but hopefully that will last another 10 months until my next upgrade. thank you!
This worked for me today!!! I was about ready to buy another phone too. Thanks again for this solution!!!
HURRAY!
WE HAVE A GENIUS HERE and HE IS THE Nic2010. THanks a lot

This works great - so great in my case that I would have to unstick the plastic every time I needed to use the touch screen. Worked every time.
The problem is over time the plastic was becoming unglued from the screen. I ended up just taking it off and realized it was conductive - is there any way to operate touch screen without the plastic cover?
Thank you soooooo much for this tip! It saved me at least $150. I saw the spot where my screen looked different. After I took the needle and lifted up the screen carefully, it was back to normal. Thank you again so much!
Yesssss! You do not realize how much we rely on our cellphones until they don't work. I had the same problem. I followed Nic2010's suggestion. I was surprised to find a piece of lent or some type of foreign object was under my screen. I removed it and my phone was fine. I could send a text message. It was great!!!
Nic2010
U R great..it helped me too
happy 2011
Wow! Thanks so much! I love this phone but this would be the 3rd one replaced in a single year. Verizon and HTC are apparently unaware of the problem Thanks again!
It's working :-) thanks a lot
Mine did this yesterday and I tried your tip after searching online for solutions! Great tip!!! It works and it saverd me from replacing my phone!
Thank you very much .. It's really a great suggestion from you side .. it worked like charm
Thank you very much .. It worked like a charm
This worked Great!! I had already ordered a new phone but was panicked that I couldn't get any of my data out of this phone. Also had an alarm set and coudn't get it to stop going off since couldn't dismiss it. Once I peeled the screen off and lightly cleaned the sensors, the phone responded to touch and I could clear the alarms and will be able to get my contacts easily! Thank you for such wonderful advice!!
This worked great and allowed for me to stop the alarms I had set and were going off to be cleared! I really appreciate the great information!!
OMG!!!! If I knew where you lived I would come and KISS YOU!!!! IT WORKED!!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!
Cool beans!! Thanks dude!
Wow, i read it and didn,t believe. thought maybe this was for simple cases - obviously not what i had with mine. IT WORKED - TOOK ME ABOUT 15 SECONDS. thanks a lot - i had my htc pro 2 loaded with really important stuff - not syncronized!!!
I tried this, and it totally ruined my touch sensitivity completely! Not only that, my screen tape is loosened on the sides and can come off now!
This totally worked! My husband, who is a whiz with gadgets, told me good luck, you finally broke it. But after reading this solution, I tried it and the screen is working! Can't wait to tell my husband that he's not so much of a whiz...
OMG The lifting of the screen tottally worked ! I used a toothpick but its working again !! Thanks !! Ive been without it forver and just today i found this !
this totally worked we tried hard reset and many other variations!!!!!!! youre BRILLIANT!!!!!!!
it totally worked!!!!!! weve tried many different hard reset variatiouns and nothing was breaking the screen loose!!!!!!!! youre BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, thank you so much, I woulda never guessed this in a million years, Sprint tech support wanted me to do a hard boot to fix it but I said FORGET THAT ****, I would of lost all my stuff and this is my work phone so needless to say you're a life saver at this point since I'm on my next flight out on business and didn't know what to do!
Thanks again !
OMG!! Thank you so much!!
A year later and this just saved my phone. Didn't have the oily spot issue but my phone was left outside in below freezing temps for 2 nights in row. Screen wouldn't respond to anything until I tried this trick, now works just fine. Thanks Nic2010 !!!
worked in less than a minute...thanks a lot Nic2010 ur a lifesaver!!!
Worked, though now I feel the screen is a bit looser now than it was before.
OMFG!!! I just tried this with a phone I'm giving my sister. It worked on a 3 year old phone that has't been used in more than a year!

<<The following post applies to the HTC Touch Pro 2 mainly, but as they are similar and googling also gets here and the solution provided helped me as well, I'm going to post it here.>>
Thing is, what mostly happens is that an area becomes stuck, i.e. permanently pressed. That is why no other (additional) presses are recognised an the touch screen appears nonresponsive. Reasons for this can be deformations of the whole screen cover caused by temperature or small point-like deformations, as caused by impact on sharp things. (Mine was caused by impact (flat on the ground, indoors), but there was a small piece of dirt underneath the screen protector....!)
So the needle trick pushes the screen cover up an "unsticks" this area. Depending on what's wrong with your particular screen, you need to lift either the whole (often slightly oil-as-wasser-ly discoloured in this case) or the single spot (as in my case).
To make a long story short, this "defect" is neither caused by dirt nor solved by removing it. Thus, I really recommend a long, thin but blunt needle (so as to neither scratch the display - be careful, it's just below! - nor the screen cover from the underside)
Also, notice that the screen cover is glued. So don't slide the needle along the underside, but pin in regular distances (it might come off otherwise).
I'd even say (no guarantee, of course) that it is worth doing even if you are still in warranty, as I doubt, somebody will look if the glue was pierced - or that you even can detect such in the first place. It will likely save you money for shipping and time without your phone (provided they do not blame you for it and let you pay for repair).
Hope I could clarify some concerns ("just peeling the dirt? you're kidding me, that's voodoo!")
I have tried this and it worked brilliantly. My only question is what do I do now - the patch is unstuck and so my screen works. But it now seems like an air pocket- so can easily stick down again.
Is the only solution to permanently keep a needle handy to lift this area? Or is there a way to ensure this little patch doesnt get stuck again?
Hi, i have also a TP2 (well actually i have now 2 of them) i bought a new one because the touch screen stopped working. The comment above did the trick. The oily surface (if you hold it agains the light) and i pulled the top layer of the screen (touchscreen) up. Started on top and moved my nail slowly towards the long sides. The oily surface disappeard and YES NOW ITS WORKING AGAIN!! Anyway, this did the trick.
Unreal, it worked. You the man!
thanks man it worked perfectly....i have my touch pro back
thanks...it worked perfectly......i now have my touch pro back

I have a touch pro 2. That was working 1 second then stopped working during a phone call. Soft resets had no effect. But I take my fingernail and slightly separate the plastic edge from the screen and I could see lots of junk inbetween the screen and the surrounding case. While still wedging it apart I took a business card corner, pushed it down into the side and started cleaning all of the stuff out. (mostly oil and dirt) I did this on both sides and viola' my touch screen started working again.
What I did to fix my problem was similar to the folks above. I took a needle and went around the egdes of my HTC tp2, I clean out the dirty that was present. But, still no luck. Then I took the pin and slightly lifted up on the actual screen its self on both sides of the long end, right in the middle and everything works fine. Just be careful not to over do it.
Hi. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on here who posted the solutions. Solution #5 worked for me (needle underneath). People reading this might think that cleaning the edges doesn't sound like a viable fix but it just worked perfectly for me. Thanks again.
Thanx smoothdrc and Nic2010! u saved me to try to do factory reset or sending my TP2 to the service station! But the cleaning with namecard corner works fantastic!
You are my hero!
peeling back the screen just a bit worked like a charm...
i sooo didnt want to go back to my old phone.
thanks.
You guys rock. this solution did not work initially and i was worried if this solution works. but since there are so many people reporting that this solution actually works, i tried for some time and at it worked like a charm. You guys saved me from going to the HTC service and shell out money for getting this simple thing done. Thanks a Lot !!!

Thanks to everyone, this helped alot.
Omg this works! I also got the little bubbles from under the screen out too by doing this... cleaning the freakin edges... who woulda thought?!
See http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=68671
seems to be a manufacturing defect- TONS of reports with the same issue.
Best of luck
My screen was not responding, after removing the aftermarket protective case it worked fine. The case was just on too tight and was pressing against the screen so the screen would not respond to my screen taps.
The needle trick worked guys! Thank you soo much.
Thanks to all the posters on this thread! I also was experiencing this issue with my HTC Touch Pro 2. A couple passes with my fingernail on each side of the screen and...Problem Solved.
I had the same problem. It happened within the 2-year warranty time and I have sent it back to HTC (goes via a repaircenter called Eurotwice). They picked up my defect HTC at home and I received it back by mail 1 week later with a new touchscree. No costs. Excellent service by HTC!!! I could even follow the repair process on line via www.eurotwice.be
Man i love u thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all help sliding your finger nail across the edges of the screen worked perfectly ... thanks again
HTC might help you with this because it is so new. However if you dropped it (etc.) and if HTC doesn't replace it for you, You can get the part at HTC Touch Pro Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to put in the part at HTC Repair Guide.
SOURCE: HTC touch pro frequently requires reset
HTC Touch Pro is a joke. My HTC Mogul quit working after a year's worth of light use in August 2009. I stupidly chose to upgrade to the HTC Touch Pro. The first one I had, the keyboard quit working with 6 weeks (unfortunately for me, not in Sprint's 30 trade in period!). I had also had issues with the screen freezing off and on, and not being able to answer calls half the time. Don't even get me started on the camera lag, the not being able to hear who is calling me due to poor ear speaker, etc, etc.
So, I called Sprint, and they replaced it with a "refurbished" model. No battery included, just a phone in a bag in a UPS box. I got my number transferred over to it, got all my info transferred over to the "new" Touch Pro. Within two hours, the phone locked down - completely froze. Tried soft reset - NOTHING. Took the battery out for a few minutes. Resolved the issue temporarily. Within an hour it had done it again. By the sixth lock down in less than 24 hours, the phone stayed that way for 2 hours straight. As I type this, two days in to having the phone, I am now up to eleven different times this phone has froze up.
I called Sprint, asked them to please replace this piece of ****. They so nicely offered to replace it with yet another HTC Touch Pro. I asked them if it was at all possible to replace it with a comparable phone from another manufacturer. The answer? NO. It seems it is their policy that they have to replace a phone at least THREE seperate times before they will even consider replacing it with another brand. So, I wrote to every executive e-mail address I could find. I was finally contacted by a "V.I.P. Analyst" with
"Sprint Executive & Regulatory Services" through my e-mail. She told my wife she's been leaving me voicemails on my phone. Funny, I don't even show a missed call on the phone. Unknown as to the voicemails, because the phone won't unfreeze for long enough for me to check them!
Anyway, my wife explained that I was totally unsatisfied by the Touch Pro, and again asked for it to be replaced with a comparable phone from a different brand, as I need a phone that is reliable for business use. Amazingly, she was told no. She explained, again, that we have been with Sprint for five years, and carry five lines with them, spending an average amount of $4200 a year on their services alone. She told her she could "understand your frustration, but the contract you "signed" says that they are only a service provider and are in no way responsible for the devices." The best they can do is replace it with another Touch Pro, as they have no record of having problems with this device. My wife told her to check some of the internet forums and tech reviews. The response? She can "appreciate that people are blogging about it, but again, Sprint has no known issues with this particular device." Funny, I can read through this one site alone and see that SEVERAL Sprint customers have issues with the Touch Pro.
I'm still trying to get something done through Sprint, as overall, they are a great company to be with. I just can't believe they would be willing to lose a five year customer over a piece of **** like the Touch Pro!
My recommendation on the HTC Touch Pro? STAY AWAY, STAY VERY FAR AWAY!!!
SOURCE: htc touch screen not working.
Hi reset your cell phone to factory setting else you have an option in HTC to reset your display settings. Yasha you need to go to the settings and then to the display option to make a new touch screen settings
SOURCE: htc touch pro touch screen isn't working...any
Did you try to restart it?? I had such a problem and the restart helped.
SOURCE: Slide out keyboard not working on HTC Touch Pro
Take the battery out of the TP and then press down very hard on the spacebar. This will reconnect the flex cable and will fix it for the time being. But in the end a replacement will be needed.
