Question about Panasonic DMR-EZ17 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Fuzzy Picture I got my new Panasonic DMR-EZ17 yesterday and hooked it up. The picture when viewing live TV is kinda fuzzy. It was very sharp and clear before. To make sure it wasn't a faulty or worn cable, I disconnected the Panasonic and connected my older DVD Recorder. The picture was perfectly clear. I'm wondering if it's some type of setting on the Panasonic? Any advice???

Re: Fuzzy Picture

Are you using the component (RGB) outputs, and a Sony TV? I believe that there is something in the output of at least some Panny DVD recorders (over the RGB component path), which Sony TVs don't process properly.

When hooking up to a new tv, the sound no longer

This all depends on how you connected the two. If you used the component cables then you've forgotten the audio cables. If you're using an s-cable then you've bent a pin or the connector is not centered. If you're using an Html connector then the cable may be bad but my money is on the DVD player being bad.

Projection TV's have a very nice picture, but they still do not look as sharp as a plasma, LCD or CRT. It is an HD picture, it is just the problem with projection TV's (depending on just how bad the picture is), it should still look good, but it will not compete with the others types of TV's

Dirty heads or the recording was from a different brand VCR and the Panasonic cant get the right tracking. Try manual tracking just a little in either direction to you get the right one.

No picture

[I am assuming that the recorded disc was not made using the DVD recorder]. It's most likely that the video portion of the file is encoded in a format that is not supported by the DVD recorder. The player only supports DivX, JPEG, and MP3 formats. So try transferring the file on the disc to a computer and encoding in a supported format. You can use free online services such as or to encode media files into different formats.
