my tv works fine apart from the red and green double vision i get , maybe something to do with tube alignment so i have read but more details on this would be appreaciated also is this expensive to fix?
Your tv is having convergence issues, i.e the red, green and blue are not converging properly together to give a suitable picture. you will need to replace the two convergence ics (approx cost $30 a pair), they are rectangular shaped mounted on heat sink and black in color. You will also need to check if the resistors on the output pins of each ic are not open. and finally you will need to re-focus the red and blue using the remote.
This is a convergence problem that is either poor solder connections on the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where there are ptentially dangerous high voltages present even when unplugged, you can fix this yourself.
Please let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll supply additional details and instructions.

Originally came in with usual convergence issues, replaced the two STK chips, check/tested all was sweet. Customer brought back within days with horz sync issues, almost looks like something is breaking down. Sometimes has approx 10cm bands of sync tearing, is random. All SMPS rails are clean. Have searched for similar failures but can find no hits. Can you help? My email is john.wiersma@defence.gov.au

Hi I have a Sony KP-EF41 rear projection tv that does not turn on. When you switch it on the standby led flashes at about 1hz. I had a quick look and found the horizontal output transistor shorted. I replaced it and it shorted again. Any idea's? Is it worth repairing?
