SOURCE: no blue manual convergence - Samsung pcj522r

Thats a very strong possibilty the phosphorus may be burned off the CRT face. Does the blue project when powerd up and looking in from the raer of the set? Look into the blue CRT lens while its playing If you can see a clear picture I would think that you have some open resistors in the blue circuit, If you cant see a picture its time for a CRT. If you need a CRT let me Know I have a good source for them Used.

SOURCE: the Screen looks 3D & Colors don't line up on my big screen????

If the convergence is off more than 1/2 inch or so you can't adjust. you have a failure of hardware. most likely the output IC. This set has 2 outputs for convergence. Each output contains 3 circuits, Six circuits altogether 2 red ,2 blue and 2 green. The normal customer adjustment will only alow adjustment of blue and red. They should be converged onto the green. There is a much more complex adjustment in the service mode for Geometry and convergence. These adjustments are only needed when you replace a failed componnent like the output ic. These ICs have been upgraded several times since the production of this set. The latest and most powerfull version is STK394-160. If feel up to it I suggest changing both outputs and the corresponding output resistors. Then do a complete geometry and convergence alignment.

SOURCE: the red, green and blue colors do not line up correctly

This set is fairly easy to fix for this trouble. A AV48p30 usually takes me about 40 minutes to fix for this problem.

It uses two of the STK-392-110 convergence chips. The repair involves two things--getting at the chips (easy) and being able to unsolder them and replace them.

You can buy almost everything you will need on Ebay for under 30 dollars (I can tell you who to look for there)

Most shops are going to get 300 or more for this kind of repair so if you or someone you know can do it you can save a lot of money.

I can tell you how to get at the chips and also everything you will need to do the repair.

If this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

If you want the detailed instructions let me know and I will post them here for you.

It has tripple vision and looks like a bow tie.

hi, sounds like a convergence issue. try this...
  • Look through your manual. Your manual will always give you the most specific directions for your particular model. Look for an "adjusting convergence" or "set manual convergence" section.

  • Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
  • Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
  • Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
  • Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
  • Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
  • Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
  • Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
  • Repeat these steps for all colors.

  • good luck!

My TV color has yellow, blue and red shadows n the picture.

Enter Service mode.. Press Menu -0-1-5-7 in quick succession . From there select the convergence option. You should see 3 crosshairs -Red, Blue and Green. Green is fixed but Red and blue can be moved. Align both of them with green and see if the issue resolves. If not Try moving them around and see if the problem is cleared. If not you may have the inevitable convegence IC problem and the IC needs to be replaced. Let me know if that is the case and I will give you the procedure.

I have a Philips 51PW9303 Rear Projection TV that had blue shadows around the sides of the screen and now has a green and red bowed line at bottom. Does I need a convergence board to solve this?

If the following doesn't work the tubes could be at the end of life:
    Adjusting convergence:
Note: For best results, the Projection TV needs to be turned on for 15 minutes or longer before adjusting the picture tubes (convergence).

To adjust the convergence of the picture tubes:
    1. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button on the remote.
    2. Press CURSOR RIGHT to enter the PICTURE menu.
    3. Use CURSOR DOWN and RIGHT to select and enter MANUAL CONVERGE.
    4. Press CURSOR RIGHT to select CONVERGE RED or press CURSOR RIGHT and DOWN to select CONVERGE BLUE.
    5. A crosshair will be shown on the screen. If there is any red or blue fringe around the crosshair, use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, DOWN to try and merge the fringe colors with the crosshair.
    6. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button to return to MANUAL CONVERGE menu.
    7. Press the 'EXIT' button to exit the menu.
If you are satisfied with the convergence you may stop now. Otherwise, you can continue and adjust the convergence more using mult ipoint convergence.
    To Adjust multipoint convergence:
    1. Press the 'MENU/SELECT' button on the remote.
    2. Use CURSOR RIGHT to enter the PICTURE menu.
    3. Use CURSOR DOWN and RIGHT on the cursor ring to select and enter MANUAL CONVERGE.
    4. Press CURSOR RIGHT and DOWN on the cursor ring to select MULTIPOINT RED or MULTIPOINT BLUE.
    5. A grid of crosshairs will appear on the screen. If there is any red or blue fringe around any of them, press CURSOR RIGHT to enter NAVIGATE mode.
    6. Use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, and DOWN to move to a crosshair that has a color outline.
    7. Press the 'EXIT' button to enter ADJUST mode.
    8. Use CURSOR RIGHT, LEFT, UP, and DOWN to merge the color with the crosshair.
    9. Press the 'STATUS/EXIT' button to return to NAVIGATE mode. Repeat as necessary.
    10. Press the 'MENU' button to return to the MANUAL CONVERGE menu.
    11. Press CURSOR DOWN until SAVE MULTIPOINT is selected.
    12. Press CURSOR RIGHT to save the multipoint settings.
    13. Press the 'EXIT' button to exit the menu.

To adjust manual convergence on your projection TV, follow theses steps:
    1. Turn your TV on.
    2. Let it warm up for 30 minutes.
    3. Press the Menu button on your remote. The Main menu appears.
    4. Use your remote to select Function, and then press the joystick.
    5. Select Convergence, and then press the joystick. The Manual Convergence screen appears.
    6. Select Red, and then press the joystick. A series of crosshairs appears on the screen.
    7. Select one of the outside crosshairs by moving the joystick up/down/right/left or by pressing the 2 (up), 4 (left), 6 (right), or 8 (down) buttons on your remote. The method you use depends on the model of remote you have. Note: You must do the outside crosshairs first.
    1. In the crosshair you selected, if you can see a horizontal red line, use the CH up or CH down buttons to move the line so that it is superimposed on the horizontal center line of the crosshair. Note: Make the single horizontal line as white as possible.
    1. In the crosshair you selected, if you can see a vertical red line, use the Vol + or Vol - buttons to move the line so that it is superimposed on the vertical center line of the crosshair. Note: Make the single vertical line as white as possible.
    1. Repeat for all outside crosshairs, and then for the inside crosshair.
    2. Return to the Manual Convergence Screen, and select Blue, and then press the joystick.
    3. Repeat Steps 7 through 10 for Blue.
    4. Press the Menu button on your remote to exit.
Important: The directions above work for most Samsung Rear Projection TVs. Yours may be different. For exact directions to perform manual convergence, see your user's manual. If you don't have your user's manual on hand, click HERE to view your manual on line.
If you cannot get your Projection TV to converge, it may need to be serviced. To arrange a service appointment, call Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864). Have your TV's model number and serial number on hand when you call.
