I have a Linksys 802.11b wireless router and a Lenovo T61 laptop with a cable internet connection. Is there some 'fine tuning" I can do to get my connection above 1Mbps? Would an 802.11g (or higher) router help a lot?
802.11b standard runs at 11Mbps. If you can only get 1Mbps from the router, you need to check your signal strength and your network card. If your wireless NIC in the laptop is only 802.11, you will max out at up to 2Mbps.
Right click on computer, go to manage, device manager, then network adapters. It will tell you what the network adapters in your laptop are, then you can google the model and find out what the specs are. This should be the factory NIC, Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN, which supports 802.11a, b, and g.
