look at the back of the computer, look at the edges around the inside of the case your looking for screws or spinners where finger turn them remove them than the side panel should slide back towards the back of the case. look inside the case locate dvd player, follow it down come to square or oblong device ribbon cable, ribbon cable will have 16 pins about 3 inchs wide, if hard drive had sata cables little 1/2 wide with L shape connector, look at the case, look where the hard drive is mounted and find the screws that are holding the hard drive in place., you are going to remove the screws there maybe 2-4 screws holding the drive in place,. remove power connection and hard drive connection than pull out the drive. now getting infomation off the drive is alot of work go on line hard drive removal device, esata or sata with usb connection and power supply to run hard drive software to back up stuff you want. if you need more help email me thru this site.

the cover being removed is a warning you can turn off in bios. if hard disk 0 failed you can check bios and make sure hd0 is still marked as your boot device, you should also open up the case yourself and make sure a cable has not gotten unplugged or moved. make sure both the power and data cables are plugged in if it's sata. if it's IDE make sure that the serial cable and the power plug from the PSU is plugged in. if it still doesn't work you can try a different plug from the PSU. if none of that helps you can download hirens boot cd or ultimate boot cd, boot to the disc and there are hdd diagnostics you can run to find out the actual problem. good luck!

Ok my issue is that I had a Dell Optiplex given to

Check your hard drive usage and capacity in the system properties before investing in a new hard drive -- sometimes malware can trick you into deleting programs and files. If you are running Windows XP or Vista, open the Start menu and click on My Computer (Computer, if you're running Vista). Right click on the C: drive and select Properties. It will show you how much space your hard drive has, and how much is being used.

If you really do have very little space, try to move large files like movies and music to external storage such as DVDs. You can also run the Disk Cleanup utility to delete temporary files and empty caches.

How do i remove the harddrive

What you will do is turn the case around and loosen the two case screws on the right side of the back case. Then slip off the side panel. Inside you will probably find a casing that the hard drive is sitting in, sometimes it's facing you , aometimes it not. If it's not, there is a lever that you can pull to release the casing with the hard drive in it. Then there will be a couple of screws on the side of the casing that need to be taken out to remove the drive completely. Opps, almost forgot, you'll have a cable that comes from the back of the hard drive that goes to the motherboard, You only need to remove the side that's connected to the hard drive, and your done. Reverse these instructions in order to put in a new drive.

Good Luck
