Re: Reset problem?

Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.

Please re-operate after pushing reset button

Just push the "reset" button and try again. The reset button is next to the EJECT button. You will need something small to push it in.

Please reoperate after pressing reset button

When you switch it on the red led will light up but within 10 seconds it will flash and then a message on the screen will come on to tell you to reset then tell you "in service".
This will repeat itself forever to frustrate you no end but I have stumbled onto tricking it into working, ie get the led on without progressing to flash. Try switching it on and as soon the led comes on, switch it off, do this a few times, then leave the switch on and voila it might stay on like it did for me.
Just now I have ran it for an hour, switch it off then after 30 seconds turn it back on and it stays on.
I thick the reset button is all bull. Let me know how it all went or am I all bull for your NV-DS38.

Will not focus and the "push reset button" message pops up then powers the camera down. Needless to asy pushing the reset button makes no difference. Is this worth repairing?patyson

Sounds like one of the capacitors on the electronic circuit board is defective. Power is not getting to the auto focus motor. Was the camera dropped recently or placed in a wet/moisture-rich environment? Try taking the battery out and leaving the camera in the open, exposed to light and flowing air for a day. If it is a board problem, the cam will need to be opened and the board tested and certain parts expensive proposition. Cam replacement will be a much cheaper solution. Check ebay or craigslist for a cheap replacement. Good luck....

There is a reset button! Get a pin and push into the tiny hole at the bottom - inside the tripod screw hole. Push in and hold. The camera will reset. I called the Flip support - they were great !

Must reset the camcorder to power on.

Sony has a fixed repair cost which includes parts. That is where the $211 comes from. If you have a major problem, you win as the boards inside can easily cost more than that. If you have a minor problem, well...

That being said, there are no other symptoms other than the need for a reset? This sounds like a logic problem. The power-on should be resetting the whole camera anyway. I'll look up this model tonight. As far as the shutdown is concerned, this is normal. If the power-up sequence fails (not performing the reset constitutes failure), the unit shuts down to prevent damage. So at least that part functions correctly.

Stay tuned...

Head cleaning.

same problem in SHARP camcorders.

SHARP offers no satisfactory solutions.

Possible SHARP does not even manufacture a head cleaning tape.
If they do it is TOP SECRET.

I will never buy SHARP again.

Here is what I was able to find about your issue with your camera. [PUSH THE RESET SWITCH] is displayed. ? An irregularity in the Camcorder has been automatically detected. Remove the cassette or the card for data protection and then press the [RESET] Button with the protection on the Lens Cap. The Camcorder will be activated. ? An irregularity in the Camcorder has been automatically detected. Remove the cassette or the card for data protection and then press the [RESET] Button. The Camcorder will be activated. ? If you do not press the [RESET] Button, the power to the Camcorder is turned off automatically about 1 minute later. ? Even after you press the [RESET] button, the indication may still appear repeatedly. If so, the Camcorder needs repair. Detach the power connected, and consult the dealer who you purchased the Camcorder from. Do not attempt to repair the appliance by yourself. Here is the location of the reset button: 1 Open the LCD Monitor 2 Undo Grip Belt end and pull Lens Cap Cord downward to loosen Grip Belt. 3 Use projection on the Lens Cap to press the [RESET] Button . If this doesn't work here is the link to the site that I found this information on. It is located on page 78 of the pdf file. Good Luck!!!
